Introducing solids

posted 21st Mar
DS will be 6 months tomorrow and we thought it'd be cute to do a little "6 month birthday/introducing solids" party lol just me, my mom and my sister because they've been DYING to give him food, but I've been holding off because I've been waiting for him to be ready. It's definitely go-time.

I would like to steer clear of jar/pouch baby food. So I think an easy one would be avocado? I've been told to do rice cereal first to gear up his body for solids, is that necessary? I've read that it is not and just jumping into solids is fine.

So what I guess I'm really trying to get at is how often/when do I give him solids? Do I make it a routine thing? Dinner time is probably the only consistent time.

I don't know, just tell me what you know/did/liked etc. Links are cool too

I would do the avocado. That was the first thing we gave DS and he loved it.

You definitely don't have to start with rice cereal.

Avocados, bananas, easy mash things go for it!

And every night at dinner would be good, I think!

Rice cereal is a waste in my opinion and both my sons refuse to eat it. Avocado is a great idea! You can do sweet potatoes or regular potaties, bananas things like that. My son will be 6 months in 3 days and loves potato and bananas.

Oh and also remember food before one is just for fun. You dont need to make a routine out of it unless hes ready and wants it.

We started DD on bananas she loved them. After we started her on them she wanted solids all the time so I would nurse her in the morning and give her a small amount of banana and then do the same at night. Now she is 8 months old and she eats everything we do she just had spaghetti at olive garden with my parents lol
