Do you agree or disagree?

Women should have at least one job before having a child? SAHMs do you agree with this or no>

I'd like a few responses before I share what I think.

And no, option 3 is not related to this. lmao I was bored and wanted 3 options.

Hmm...Im kind of confused on this one. Are you talking like a teenager having a job at lets say Subway?? Or you talking about an adult working as a lawyer?

Teenager you should finish school first before anything and an adult can do whatever the hell they want as long as they arent living off the government!

I wouldn't say just having children... I would say before getting involved in a relationship/married/moving in with someone and being financially dependent on them. Women should do something to make themselves marketable in the event of worst case scenario. Divorce, job loss, tragedy, etc. I don't expect to be taken care of for the rest of my life so I make sure that I can take care of myself if necessary, with savings, experience, and hopefully in the near future, an education.

I think it is extremely important for a woman to have skills.

While I don't necessarily think it has to be PRIOR to having children, I think a woman is dumb if she doesn't want to ensure she has something to fall back on.

ETA: Be it education, job skills, etc.

See, what I'm curious about is women that TTC right after high school or right after college with no work experience, have children.

Apparently I'm the minority that feels that is not a good idea.

I think you should have at least ONE job because if you decide being a SAHM isn't for you, if your husband dies or leaves you, etc.. you would have at least ONE thing to fall back on.

It's hard to get a job with large gaps in employment history, wouldn't it be EVEN harder to show youve NEVER held a job?

I think a woman should always have something other than being a Mom. SAHM need to have an education and skills to take care of themselves, their relationship or financial situation could change forcing them into the work place, and kids won't need her home full time once school starts. I think it's important to not have to rely on a partner for your life.

I agree.....a mother should ALWAYS have something to fall back on such as a degree in case the husband leaves her, dies or anything like that she can provide for the family.

Most places, from what I've seen, want at least 3 years of relevant experience + a college degree. I had work experience before having a child, but I still wish I would've gone to college before hand, just because it will be harder for me to go back now and still take care of my priorities and responsibilities at home.

I dunno.. some people aspire to just be SAHM's. I don't think it's wrong. Plenty of people get jobs with no prior work history. I think a good explanation for lack of work experience in a worst case scenario is simply that you were a SAHM, but your circumstances have changed. And this is coming from someone who got her first job at 14 and works a full time job. *shrug*
