In my hospital yes you can. From what they told me there are less risks of getting the spinal then there is actually being put out.

why would you want that without a medical reason? dont' you want to see your baby as soon as possible?

You can ask. Doesn't mean they will do it though. Also I'm pretty sure they give you a spinal block not an epidural.

This. You're gonna be out of it for a while from the medication they put you under with, OP. Like, hours.

Why do you want to be put under?

you can... you will not have as good of pain control after the c-section and there is greater risk of jaundice and complications for baby. you also are intubated and it can be very traumatic to your throat. i would never want that unless i had to have it.

and groggy as smurf afterwards. Longer recovery time, sore throat from intubation, and increased pain because of lack of spinal block.

I personally have a phobia of needles. Never even had blood drawn before I was pregnant with DD. I do ok for the blood draws now, but went all natural with DD because I was so afraid of someone digging around in my spine with a needle. I think when the time comes, if DS is still breech, I will just suck it up and take the spinal with the anxiety attack I'm sure that will come, it just scares the ever loving crap out of me.

They have time released morphine in the spinal so it helps with the pain right from the start and helps keep the pain away longer.

well i was just worried about getting two epidurals within a week, and also i have really bad anxiety so i dont know how well i will handle it. Do they give you anything to calm you down when you get a csection?

no, you put on your big girl panties and realize there is no easy way to deliver a baby.

All of this is the main reason I plan on going natural   I have tattoos and piercings, but getting shots or blood drawn makes my heart race. I could never get a needle in my back if I had a say so in the matter.

No there isn't anything they can give you. There will be quiet a few people there in the OR with you so you're not alone. And after they get the spinal in it's all easy breazy
