Okay so here's the sitch, next month I am getting the rare opportunity to make a few hundred dollars for doing super easy work. DH recently got a great job, so we really don't need it for bill and we agreed that I can keep it for myself for whatever I want. Which, it's rare enough just getting $20 just for myself, but next month I will have a little over $300, and the only thing I can think that I want, DH is totally against it. I really don't have any hobby's (besides BG lol), all I thought of that I think would be superrr cool is an Xbox with Kinect. I'd really like to get some of the fitness games and Zumba. And not to forget, A little Left 4 Dead  

Well, his argument is that it will keep us from spending time with the kids, and he thinks we'll get obsessed with the Xbox. I respectfully disagree. For one, I don't work out until the kids are in bed anyway, because they are always in the living room and that's the only place with space for me to excersize(sp?). Also, at least for DD1, she is close to the age where she could play with the Kinect, I imagine there are age appropriate games we could get for her. And we don't have to get games that require a controller, we can get games that will require movement and energy. So, I think it will be healthier for our family in the long run. But, he says he'll get real mad if I get it. I'm thinking I might get it anyway and just hope he comes around.


Sooo, should I get the Xbox anyway and risk making DH upset, or should I find something else to get? Suggestions on what else I could instead?

Plus there are TONS of kinect games for families to play together!

but L4D2 isnt terrible on xbox.

Some things to think about: I think it's more then $300 all together for an xbox AND a kinect, and then of course the games are all usually over $50 each.

I doubt it would really take any time away from your family, and if it's something you've really wanted for a while, then yeah you should get it. But idk, I never make decisions without consulting with my hubby and vice versa. We make all decisions regarding any amount of money over like $100 together, unless it's a gift, obviously.

Why don't you pose it to him like this, either you get that to exercise at home or you use it to pay a years membership at a 24 hr gym

You should be able to have an xbox if you want one. Do you tell him that he can't buy certain things?

I don't understand this concept of "his money" and "my money". For me it's all "our" money. I have my own income coming in from something I do from home, and he has his income from his job, but we just put it all together and both spend it normally.

I didn't want DH to get a PS3 but he wanted it so I went out and got it for him on Black Friday. Your DH needs to learn to pick his battles, IMO. I'd get it anyway.

Uhm...I'd probably just get myself new clothes, or save it for a few date nights or something. Go get my hair done. IDK

Well, it kind of is a gift... sort of? All I'm doing for it is dog sitting for my Dad while he's on vacation. I told DH I could use it to help more with bills and he said to keep it. So in my mind, that's sort of a gift.
