ENT appointment..

posted 20th Mar
I have a ENT appointment coming up in April for my daughter. If you've been to one for your LO, what exactly did they do? Did they find anything abnormal and if they did, did they have to do any kind of surgery? If so, how did your LO react to it and how long did it take to fully recover?
I feel like i have so much on my plate right now. My daughter has a lot of things going on and a lot of doctors appointments coming up right around the time i start school for 4 days a week. I just want to know if the surgery is really bad and I'd need to stay home with her while she recovers the entire time so i can just have my mind eased a little bit.

Depends on why she's being seen...

My son just had surgery on the 25th to have his tonsils and adenoids out due to recurring strep infections. The first couple days were the hardest. But here we are three weeks later and he's been pretty much back to normal for about a week. After the first couple days it was just pain management and giving him as much appropriate food as he wanted.

What is it for and is she seeing audiology too or just ENT?

She is being seen because she snores and has irregular sleep patterns. She stirs a lot and breaths with her mouth open most of the time. They said they think it might be her tonsils or adenoids.

After several ear infections we were referred to ENT for a consult. DD was about 1.5ish when we took her. He said that she was too young for surgery but recommended that she have a specialized hearing test done. She passed with flying colors and we didn't have to follow up with ENT. She has since grown out of her ear infections.

As far as I'm concerned, just the ENT. I also have a sleep apnea test for her on Sunday.

It's not for ear infections although she has had a couple. It's mostly for her snoring and irregular sleeping. I really hope that it's nothing serious. I'd rather it be sleep apnea then surgery

Yeah. So it'll probably be the recovery I just explained. I will warn you though. Kids come out of anesthesia horribly pissed off. It makes them very confused and disoriented. He slept pretty much the.whole first day to get the anesthesia out of his system.

Oh ok, I don't know much about that. When we were there they did do the camera up her nose down her throat...that sucked. I had to restrain her myself, but she got over it fairly quickly. That's all I got. Good Luck. I've found that parents have the harder time recovering from the trauma than the kids.

I agree sleep apnea is probably easier to take care of.

No problem. Honestly I was expecting it to be pretty rough but after the first day it wasn't so bad. Besides me spending $40 on numbing popsicles he wouldn't eat. Lol. Other than that just stock up on jello and pudding and ice cream if she likes it. I got a bunch of juice but my son doesn't drink it so he just drank diluted tea like always (his go to drink daily) lol. I wasn't warned about how he'd be coming out of the anesthesia but once I got him a little oriented and rocked him in the rocking chair he slept on me the whole time we were waiting to be discharged. My best advice is to keep up on the pain meds and don't skip any doses for the first 4-5 days.

Oh yeah, i will have loads of all of that! I just hope it doesn't come to that but if anything I'll be home during the day and i go to school at night so my step-dad will be with her right when she goes to bed. DD doesn't drink juice either lol she's a water baby.
