Freaking out!!

posted 19th Mar
I'm a 1st time mom with a sick baby and i'm just scared please don't be an ass.

My daughter (3 mos.) is coughing so bad! It sounds horrible! She'll start coughin in the middle of sleepin, then cry...probably b/c her throat is sore from coughin so hard. She went to the Dr. today and of course they said it's 'just a cold' 'nothing serious...saline drops and bulb, humidifier... blah blah blah follow up Friday' Last time they said she had 'just a cold' she was barely 3 weeks old, and she really had the beginning stages of pertusiss (whooping cough) the NEXT day b/c, yes, I got scared and took her to the hospital. I'm glad I did though. But that's what exactly what she sounds like right now. She just keeps gettin worse everyday.... I've tried it all.... it's been almost 2 weeks. I'm leaning towards taking her to the ER. The only reason I haven't yet is b/c she hasn't been running a fever (she never ran a fever when she had whooping cough either) and she hasn't thrown up.
What do I do??? Do I calm down and wait it out??? Maybe make another appointment tomorrow for a 2nd opinion?? Do colds last this long or should I just be safer than sorry and take her in???
Our ER is so nasty...

Listen to your gut. If you are worried enough about her then take her in and have her checked. If anything it will ease your mind. My LO has an upper respiratory infection right now and it sounds like he has RSV all over again. But He's been tested and everything is clear.

I would take her to te nearest major er, she may have rsv, an that can turn into phenmonia quick bc of the thick mucous in her chest.!!! Hope this helps!!

Yeah they tested her for that today and it was negative... But it just sounds so bad. And I don't want her to actually be ok, then get even sicker b/c of the ER... I can't tell if it's my gut or if I'm just bein paranoid =/

I would take her to the ER if:

She spikes a fever
Her chest is dipping in around her ribs
Her lips or fingernails turn blueish
She is coughing so much she can't sleep at all or is vomiting

Otherwise you can lay her across your lap, face down and pat her firmly on the back. Coughing might help her cough up some of what is congesting her. Also try taking her into the bathroom and steaming it up. I hope she feels better, Mama. Having a sick little one is never fun.

and if it is something serious again suggest maybe finding a different dr.

Take her in. Even if it turns out to be just a cold at least your mind will be set at ease. Always better safe than sorry.

Do breath counts with her. If she's breathing more than 60 breaths every 60 seconds then she's having a rough time. And if the spot between the bottom of her ribs and her stomach is caving in with every breath that means she's having a hard time as well.

Pick her up and put your head to her chest and if she's rattling, wheezing or anything like that I would deffinetly take her to the nearest major er even with no fever it could be something serious!! Hope she feels better soon keep us updated

Yeah I was actually considering that earlier... they're not exactly a top notch office imo.

If she keeps it up and you are still worried go ahead and take her. Peace of mind is always best. If you can, take one of those little travel lysol cans and hand sanitizer. Our ER is pretty clean and I get paranoid about getting sick there.

^^^^this but make sure you suck her nose out really good with the saline and the bulb first so you make sure you're hearing just her lungs and not her nose. They can be deceiving
