Buying a kitchen table. Does yours have water marks?

I'm looking at buying a kitchen table and 6 chairs. We found a set we were in love with, it's by ashley furniture and runs $699.. The women then told us that if we leave a cup on it, it will leave a ring. We decided against it. A solid wood table with the protective coating at the furniture store they said runs 2k and up.. They said we could go with a table that looks wood but it's made outta Formica but the one we like is $1300. I just don't want to spend that much.

Here's my question.. If you have a regular wood table does it have rings and water marks from leaving cups on it?

Yeah it does but one day when the kids are older and not as messy, DH is going to sand it and put some kind of finish on it. For now we have a plastic tablecloth over it.

Did you buy it new? how easy do the water marks happen?

My table is wood its so old you can see where the bords were placed together but maybe since its lite colored it doesn't show idk though its from the 80s my aunt donated it to us when we got our house

My current table my MIL got for us from a garage sale for $100 7 years ago. When we first moved out we were using patio furniture lol Now i'm ready to pick something new.

Why don't y'all just use coasters? Lol

Our table was expensive but I dont know.if it has a protective coating....we have water marks. When our kids are older we plan on getting it refinished

We use coasters on it usually but dd has set stuff on there and it seems fine so far but I do worry. I wish I had enough $ to get a custom made glass too to put over it.

Why don't you just not leave water sitting on the table or use place mats?

I just don't want to spend a bunch of money and then it get ruined by the kids... We thought about the glass top but I haven't priced it out yet.

We have an Ashley table, it's about 5 years old. No rings or watermarks, but we don't leave glasses sitting on our table for extended periods of time. Maybe if I left a glass full of ice cubes overnight we'd get a ring...but not during the 45min it takes us to eat a meal...or even the couple hours, while we host a dinner party.

Trust me kids don't always use them. Dd will set her drink right next to the damn thing. I'm like "LYlian, use the coaster!!!!" "Oh I didn't see it"

I have a marble table. It is perfect for the kids. They can't ruin it. It wasn't that expensive. I think we paid $1000 for the table and $100/ chair. We waited for a sale. They should be having an easter sale here shortly. Why not look around for a bargain and find something durable that will last thru the little kid destructive years?

i would just get a cheap one and refinish it when they are older its easy to do
