Daughter has trouble sleeping with daddy gone.......

posted 19th Mar
My husband left us for basic training on Feb. 26. The first couple of nights our 21 month old daughter would fight her sleep, wanting only daddy. Once that happened for a few nights, it stopped. Then, went to going to sleep, waking up and just puking EVERYWHERE and falling right back to sleep. Happen about 3 nights in a row. I think it was just her nerves, but I have no idea?! Now, that is over, she goes to bed just fine... after sleeping for about 2 hours, and will wake up ALLLLLLLL throughout the night just screaming! She will fall back to sleep, but still!!! This has been happening for the passed 4 nights now. I really don't know what to do. I don't know if she's having nightmares or what?! It scares me.

It is part of her age as well. It will pass. If you don't mind, let her sleep with you. I did that with my kids when they had the night terrors and the fits of sleep.

She will get used to it and be fine. Do your best not to stress so that she feels at ease.

She's been sleeping with me since my husband left   I try not to stress about it, it just really scares me waking up to a scream like she's being tortured.

When my DH went to basic i kept a shirt that smelled like him and let her sleep with it and it.helped calm her. Also i framed a picture of him and put that in her room. We did a recordable book and she listened every night. If you have a recording of him maybe let her see him and constantly remind her he is coming home. Also we color pictures and drew pictures and sent them and had her involved with getting the mail  all these things we did some days were still hard but they get easier as the days pass

Oh yes, that sounds like night terrors. Don't try to wake her up. She won't remember them anyway. It will pass momma. Remember that and it will help you not stress too much.

I didn't think about a shirt! But she HAS to use her daddy's pillow at night to go to sleep. I have her color a picture and just scribble on paper everyday and we send them to him   As for a recording, I have a video on my phone of him singing the ABC's, she runs around with my phone alllll day long singing along, and must watch it before bed. I wish I would have recorded him more for her to see, but I didn't even think about it until he was getting ready to ship off to basic.
