vasectomy???

posted 19th Mar
Well Hubby and I have always talked about having 4 kids, and now I am 33 weeks pregnant with the 4th..
I am pretty anti- birth control, guess it kinda weirds me out.
Anyway, so this is it.. hubby wants to get a vasectomy, I am all for that.
My question is, I am only 27 and I might change my mind down the road (who knows?) anyone every heard of a successful reversal vasectomy, know someone who has done it?
ALSO, I had a friend get pregnant after her husband got a vasectomy, does this happen often enough that I should worry?

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but if you aren't completely sure you're done... don't let him do it. lol.

Reversals ARE successful (though I can't think of any personally offhand). And it's definitely possible to get pregnant if you have sex too soon after a vasectomy. Usually if you wait the amount of time they tell you, they're much more successful at preventing pregnancy.

If you are not completely sure do not do it.

With that being said, my dad had a vesectomy reversal after 7 years. His sperm count had major issues after that which was not an issue prior to the vesectomy. My parents had to have IUI done in order to get pregnant again.

There's always the option of preserving sperm. So he could still get his vasectomy and you still have your option of another child.
Also, my father conceived my younger brother after a vasectomy and my stepfather got my mom pregnant after having a vasectomy 10 years earlier. Its not 100%.

SO was married, had 4 kids and got snipped before the 4th was born because they couldn't afford more. They ended up divorced, lost a child in a tragic accident, she remarried and had 3 more children, he went back to college, which was when we met, and now has a stable career and wanted to remarry and have another child, I wouldn't commit for various reasons but we stay friends, years go by, I end up pregnant by someone who was a complete lie, and now he's by and beside me for me and the baby, but I know there's a part of him that hates that the baby isn't "his".. My point is, you never know where you'll end up, if you, or he isn't sure don't make long term decisions for short term fixes.

A bunch of my friends got pregnant after a vasectomy. But it was because they did wait and had sex right away and there are still swimmers in there. You have HAVE to go to the post surgery check. So for a few months you have to use condoms. Anyways I WON'T let my new husband do it. My ex did and he tried to reverse it when he got remarried and it didn't work. I wasn't sure I was done after my first three with my ex and it caused a LOT of issues when he did get it done. I am now remarried and having more. My new husband didn't have any kids but he was fine if I didn't want any more. But I have ALWAYS wanted six so I have two more to have!   But DO NOT if you have ANY thought you may want more. I also don't do BC so I don't blame you for thinking of this.

Yes, vasectomy reversal is successful. The medical definition off success is that the vas is sewn back together is open and sperm return to the semen. There is a 98% success rate with micro surgical repair. From a personal standpoint, there is only a 50% chance of returning to full fertility. The other 50% of men are now infertile and cannot conceive without fertility treatments. The best results from reversal are in the first 1-2 years after vasectomy. While vasectomy is covered by insurance, reversal is not usually covered. The out of pocket patient costs are between $5,000- $10,000 for most reversal clinics. So the question really is that if you are talking reversal before the vasectomy, are you really ready for that decision. Storing sperm is about $60 per month or $700/year. This may be a better plan if you are that concerned about the finality of vasectomy.
