Freaking out.

I live in the country and there is a dog freaking out outside. It sounds like a coyote or a dog maybe being attacked by a raccoon. It's not my dog. I am home alone and am scared to look outside. Should I take my gun out and look? FML.
ETA my dog is laying on her paws looking at the door with a worried look not barking like there is a trespasser outside.

Raccoons attack dogs and coyotes? Serious question, we don't have them here but the ones I've seen look so small.

I live in the country too and we hear all sorts of things outside coming from the woods. I'd just ignore it and turn the TV up or something.
We get a lot of coyotes around here and panthers. It's awful to hear them scream.

if you have no neighbors i would go out shoot a shot into the ground to scare the away, then go check on the hurt dog. be careful

I wouldn't go outside, for safety reasons.

I'm a chicken smurf, so I'd definitely be staying indoors.

Yes. Especially old dogs or dogs/cats they feel like they can get the upper hand- raccoons. And we have coyotes, beeper believe it will attack an animal. Also, my dog made friends with a fox a couple weeks ago. It's been coming around. I've been trying to deter it though because my kids play outside and I don't want it coming around.

This. I went to go pee at school tonight, heard a noise in the bathroom and ran out. Decided I'd rather hold it lol

Okay, so I went and looked outside through the window with a flash light because it sounded like it was on our lawn, but couldn't see anything. It went from sounding right outside to distant by the time I went into the garage and came back.
Now, I need to let my dog to pee and I'm afraid :-(

That's crazy. I've only ever seen them at the zoo so I had no idea, i assumed they would be more like a porqupine or skunk since those are the only things we have of a similar size to compare them to around here that aren't part of the canine family.

I'd imagine they are the same size, but raccoons are scary. I'm pretty sure they're mean, because they don't let off an odor or have any other defenses like sharp needles. They tend to travel in packs. I usually see 2-3 together.

And safety first. Especially in a bathroom at night. I'd run too.
