First let me say how wonderfully blessed I am that my in-laws have provided me with a "home office" that I come to every morning to work. While I work, they play with him and change him and entertain him. I try to help out when baby is being fussy and I nurse him for every feeding, so I definitely don't just leave him to be with them the whole time.

My issue is, their dog incessantly barks. Loud, and at the baby because I think he's jealous. DS always flinches or sometimes starts crying. They mostly just ignore the dog or once in a while tell him to Shh. But he still does it. MIL is better about telling the dog to be quiet but she works PT so sometimes it's just me and FIL.

Today he barked 3 times really loud while I was holding DS in the kitchen and FIL was right next to me. I said "Shhh. No." to the dog and my FIL goes "He's ok" in a mildly annoyed tone.

Once, DH got him by the collar and tried moving him to another room and FIL was like, Hey, he's fine!

Do I talk to them about the dog or have DH talk to them? Do I talk to MIL as she is more understanding? Do I ignore him but could he be hurting DS ear drums? Do I go drastic and just find help to take care of DS at my home when MIL is not here?

If the dog means no harm I wouldn't say anything. They have built you your own office in their home I don't think it's your place to say anything unless you think your son is in danger.

I voted for DH to say somethings however maybe he should say something to the mom since she's more understanding.

Dogs bark. Not much you can do about that.

There are different kinds of barking. It could be his way of trying to get attention. Is the barking accompanied by growling? Is the dog's tail wagging? What kind of dog is it?

I don't think the dog will hurt his eardrums unless he is right next to the baby's face. If that's the case and it's constant, have DH bring it up with his mother. She probably won't be able to stop your FIL from having the dog around but at least when it's her turn or they are together, she'll be more aware of it.

Looks like a Lab/Shepard mix. And no he doesn't growl but his tail isn't wagging either. And yea it is him trying to get attention, as soon as we start paying attention to DS he starts barking, and his bark is higher pitched than deep.
