Potty training!

posted 18th Mar
So, my daughter will be one on the third of April. For the past two weeks, three different times she has brought me a diaper when she has had poo in her pants. She will just drop the diaper at my feet. And then twice in the past week when I let her go diaper free for 20-30 minutes she will go into the bathroom and pee on the floor or sit out front of the door and cry. She is practically exclusively walking and I'm wondering some tips on how to start potty training. I will be having another in July and it would be cool for her to be almost potty trained by that time. Any tips? Experiences with young ones? Thanks!

I recently started potty training DS. We just take him to the potty every 30 minutes or so. We make sure to take him around the times we know he usually goes like after naps and after eating. We ask him if he has to go pee pee or poop. Even if he says no we put him on the potty and see if he needs to anyway. When he does go in the potty we get REALLY excited, clapping, ect. If he doesn't its OK. We just try again later. Patience is key. :-)

At the age I would do more diaper free time and bring her into the bathroom with her when you pee and ask if she wants to pee too. She seems interested and might go with that.

Every time I had to go to the washroom I took her with me and sat her on the potty. She pee'd on the potty for the time at 16 months. She is now 22 months old and has been trained fully for 2 months.

I know the feeling wanting your child to be potty trained by the time you have your next. It may take longer to fully train at this age. As I found with my daughter she would do it for a couple of days and then she would refuse to go to the potty. We did this on and off again for 4 months. But just go with what she wants, don't force her if she doesn't want to go. Eventually she will do it all the time.

Do you ladies feel it was easier and less intimidating for the LO's to use a little potty seat or to put a booster step and toilet ring on the actual toilet? I don't want her to feel twice as intimidated once I actually switch her to the big white porcelain throne lol as compared to Minnie Mouse potty seat.

The little potty will be best. You can put it in the room with her so she doesn't have to run to the bathroom. I did elimination communication with my now 3 year old when he was about 6 months.

We have all ways just used the big potty with a little seat thingy. I figure its more work using a little potty first because then at some point you have to transition them to the big potty. Plus you can just flush the big potty the other kind you'll have to wash out all the time.

I use both as she doesn't let me know when she is going potty because she goes herself. She even cleans the little potty for me and she is pretty good at not making a mess. When we are out of the house we have a potable potty seat that we put on the toilet. Also it depends on what she wants to use when we are at home if I know she is going. I leave the bathroom door open so she can just go whenever she needs to go.
