Wow typing that hurt.

When you see pics of tattoos that are badly misspelled, who is at fault?

The tattoo artist for not catching it? Or the customer for spelling it wrong in the design?

Are they both a little guilty?

Feel free to post your fav misspelled tats here

Also, should the artist be held liable for fixing or lasering off the bad tat? Or is that on the customer for not catching it before he made it permanant?

If the customer okay'd the design with a misspelled word, that's their bad.

lol, i'd feel bad if i were the tattoo artist. i'd probably ask them if they are sure they want it spelled that way and its spelled incorrect

This is a girl I know myself. She's had this for about two years but she still has no idea there's a misspelled word there.

I've always wanted to say something but she's a little temperamental

If I were the artist I would feel obliged to say something. My luck they would come back raging at me like it was 100% my fault.

I think it's the customers job to catch it. I've had a few and I always make sure everything is the way I want it- especially when it comes to spelling. I don't think it should be the artists job to remove it either. As a customer it's your job to make sure everything is perfect- seeing as how it would be going on your body the rest of your life lol

if I were a tattoo artist, I would never knowingly tattoo something misspelled. And I would triple check the word

If the customer insists on the misspelling, they can go elsewhere

Its too small I cant read it. lol

I say if the customer mispelled (maybe by accident) and the artist never asked if thats how they wanted it spelt OI would be pretty upset. I am horrible at spelling so I know I would make sure it was spelt right. llol

The tattoo artist only looks at little areas at a time, not the piece as a whole. Try slowly colouring in a letter, eventually you won't see the letter at all, just the small area you are focused on. They have more things on their mind than spelling. Same as when they paste on the stencil, they are not worrying about spelling, as they are looking at whether it flows with the body, position, waiting to see if you like the ppacement, etc. They trust that you have thought about it beforehand and made sure something you are putting on you permanently is correct. 100% the client's fault.

Both IMO. But the customer, more.
If somebody wants words on their body permanently, they should make absolutely sure it's spelled properly. If they were careless, their mistake.
At the same time, a good tattoo artist would say something if they notice, hopefully they are educated enough to notice. But if not, I don't think they are responsible. Unless they read it wrong and then misspelled it.

Unless the tattoo artist misread it when it was spelled right, and then spelled it wrong, I don't think he is responsible for any costs to fix it.

That's kind of how I feel.
My tattoos would be a representation of my work. If I have someone walking around with a horribly misspelled tattoo, how am I supposed to get referrals?

That's just dumb

a tattoo artist has to see the whole thing. Especially when it is just words. If he can't catch a basic spelling mistake, he needs to go back to school.
