Quoting Nancy Botwin:" I'm tired lol... what is the word?"

The word ridiculous is spelled 'rediculous'.

In my case I think 3 of us are at fault.
My BFF wrote it out, and the first few times she wrote it it was spelled properly, but during one of her revisions (trying to make it curve just right) she switched 2 letters.
I didn't notice, she didn't notice, and either the tattoo artist didn't notice or he just thought it would be funny to not say anything. So I think we all share a little bit of the blame in not paying enough attention to the final revision.

My friend is a tattoo artist and if he is tattooing anything that has words on it he ALWAYS tells the customer to write out exactly what they want written. He then keeps the written paper and staples it into his booking diary next to the day the tattoo was done and the customers name. It protects him so that if the customer complains of a misspelling he just gets the paper and says "Well I asked you to write down exactly what you wanted and here it is, the way it's spelled is the way you wanted it." I think that is the best way to protect yourself and your reputation as a tattoo artist.

I have a friend who said a girl she knows has a tattoo that says "your twofaced"
It had other things around it so it made more sense, but those are both misspelled. Should be "You're two-faced." lol.

that's definitely a good idea. But I would make sure I tell them if something is indeed spelled wrong. And if they still insist, that's the only time I'd need a book like that.

I just imagine this person and the tattoo artist being total dumbasses.

<blockquote><b>Quoting Amy {OneGirl, TwoBoys}:</b>" lol, i'd feel bad if i were the tattoo artist. i'd probably ask them if they are sure they want it spelled that way and its spelled incorrect"</blockquote>

This. A good artist would ask if they're sure the want a misspelled word in there.

If the person ok'd the design then it's their fault, however I feel like the tattoo artist should say something if they notice it.

I got aquarius tattooed on me when I was 18. And it was spelled right on the paper I gave the girl and on the stencil she showed me but then when she was doing it she spelled it wrong, when I noticed after it was done, I was pissed. She tried to fix it and didn't make me pay but it looked like smurf and I ended up getting a different tattoo artist to do a cover up for me.

BOTH

The artist should ALWAYS spell check before putting the tattoo on the client.
but the client should also spell check as well.

BUUUTTT
I have had clients cuss me out for spelling it correctly, or making it grammatically correct.  because it's "not what they want"
What, you want a spelling error or smurfing up wording the rest of your life???

What is up with all the Marilyn Monroe quotes? lol.

It is both the artist and the customer's fault. Moreso the customer than the artist.
