So happy, stopped the biting! (breastfeeding)
posted 18th Mar
I made a post the other night about how my 9 month old DD was biting every time she nursed. She even bit when she nursed while sleeping-and hard! She drew blood twice. I was so afraid I'd have to stop nursing her.
I tried saying no firmly and she would just smile or laugh. I read other suggestions. One was to push your baby into the breast so she can't breath. I didn't like the sound of that at ALL.
This is what worked:
While nursing, I keep my finger very close to her mouth. When she bit, I put my finger in her mouth to stop the bite. She didn't like this at all. I also stopped the feeding for at least 15 minutes. She stopped biting very soon after and hasn't bitten me in 24 hours. Fingers crossed this keeps up.
I just had to share! I'm so happy I can keep nursing. I mean, I'm sure I would've kept nursing anyway, but now I don't have to be tense and on edge every time.
Anyone else successfully stopped biting? If so, what method did you use?

Yay!! That's such a relief!! And as for the pushing into breast so they can't breath, that's only if they bite down and you can't get them to let go. Thankfully I never had a biting issue with my LO!

I have no experience, but I nearly ripped my mom's nipple off, she needed stitches and had to leave me for the weekend at my grandma's to wean me lol. Glad you found something that works!

When my son was around that age he but me so hard my nipple bled and bruised and he could nurse from that side for like 2 days.
He eventually just stopped, and only did it a few times.

High five! That's awesome. I just went through the same thing with DD, and she would think it was hilarious when I told her no. And it's really hard not to laugh with your baby. She stopped now, but it's rough!

I get her to let go by putting my finger in her mouth. But some people were saying to do that every time.
And yes, it's a huge relief

Thanks! The avi pic of your LO is so cute!
Yes, it's very hard not to laugh. I learned to not have a strong reaction. I just calmly tell her "no that hurts mommy."
How did you get her to stop?

Same thing you did, immediately removing my nipple and not letting her go back on for a while. It was tough but she gets it now!
