implantation location ?

posted 18th Mar
Late last night/early this morning I was certain I was miscarrying. I have been spotting off and on then around 2 or so I started passing clots. So turns out I have a bleed between baby and the uterine wall and I am now on bedrest. So, here is my question. Bleed is on my right side, where baby is. But, just last week baby was on my left side according to the ultrasound. Can embryos do that? Switch sides? I thought once it implanted that's where it stayed until the placenta formed. I know that probably sounds absolutely silly, and now I am kicking myself for not getting a picture today. I literally just realized they were on opposite sides.

If it was a belly ultrasound the image is mirrored.

I know, but they were both transvaginal. I didn't really think about it until I got home. But I remember the tech saying "Baby is on the right side and right there is the bleed" and last week she said left. And my sonogram picture from then shows left as well.

That's my reaction lol. Strange indeed. I want to call and ask the nurse, but I have called so many times they probably think I am a mental case lol

What? That never occurred to me. Would twins not implant on the same side? God I feel like this is a stupid thought lol.

This might help you better understand the difference in position. It all depends on which way the tech is looking at the embryo. I have pictures of DD on the left, right and dead center.

Here's a "quick" explanation about orientation...

For transverse images...

When looking at the image, the right side of the image is to patients left. The left side of the image is towards patients right. The top of the image is anterior and the bottom of the image is posterior. THis is true for abdominal and vaginal scanning...unless its a prone image but that's a different story for a different day and doesn't pertain to ob scanning.

For sagittal images....

The right side of the image is inferior or towards patients feet. The left side is superior or towards patients head. The top of the image is anterior and the bottom of the image us posterior. See...nothing about patient's right or left side. How can a guess about gender be made based on right and left implantation on sagittal images??? It can't!!!!

So if one ultrasound showed the right side and one showed the left it could be the same side? I am lost lol

Yup! It just means the image orientation is different in the pictures.

I think you had twins and only 1 was found last time. That would explain clots.

T had a vanishing twin. Crazier things have happened.

Someone said something very similar in my other thread pretty much right when Lauren did. I guess maybe that'd explain it.
