First step is a $1000 emergency fund in a savings account so you won't ever need your credit cards again.

Then write out a budget and make sure it has everything in it. If it says you have $300 each month extra, you send that to debt.

Start with your smallest debt and work to your largest. You pay minimum on everything hut the smallest. On that one, you send anything you have. When its paid off, take that payment and send it to the next debt. It really works.

I don't know about Dave Ramsay but it makes sense to me. I'm by no means a credit expert, I have just helped some people to fix some messes they've gotten into.

That's what I suggested earlier...

that's not alot! I would defiantly NOT file for bankrupts. It will ruin you for years then you will have a hell of a time trying to get antlything. Not to mention it cost a few grand I believe to file. I would just work on paying that down. Have you ever looked into Dave Ramsey program where you pay by snowballing? The only way I would ever consider bankruptcy is if I was in 100k+ of debt that I could not pay and I was going to lose everything. That is really what those programs are for not 30,000. In reality $30,000 is a car. Bankruptcy is financial suicide and should be used as a rock bottom, no wat out, last resort. You can do it! And good luck!!

It is so interesting that you say this.

My husband is the one who controls the finances (I am thinking about taking them over again). Anyways, he thinks for some reason he should pay maximum on our highest limit credit card (Which is 1,000). And then once it is paid off it would be easier to pay off our lower limit card (Which is like 800).

I keep telling him that is back ass-wards but, for some reason he won't listen to me.

I literally had to freak out on him (I'll explain why I FREAKED in a second) the other day because he wanted to go to a cash advance place to take out a loan to pay off our couches. I had to explain to him how it is STUPID to take out a loan with a higher interest rate (And put smurf up for collateral) to pay off a loan with a lower interest rate.

Now, this is why I freaked out on him. I did it for the sole purpose of getting him to listen to me. It seems to be the ONLY time he actually takes into consideration my opinion on our finances. Not last year but, the year before he asked me my thoughts on getting a credit card. I said NO. We can't afford it. 3 weeks later we have a Discover card with a 1,000 limit.

I was LIVID.

I can't take the credit! Dave Ramsey came up with the plan.

But I would have been upset too!!

Well, thank you Dave Ramsey.

I mean, I am not the greatest when it comes to "Smart spending" but, I am not too shabby when it comes to figuring out a financial plan. Granted it wouldn't be the absolute best, out of debt in 2 months (Wouldn't that be amazing?) financial plan but, I can do it to where we had money in savings to cover our next set of bills assuming we didn't have enough come following payday.

I gave up on that plan because Aaron was always bitching about transferring money back and forth from checking to savings and how inconvenient it was so I finally gave up and told him to do it himself.

Now, here we are. Consolidated credit cards and our discover card almost maxed out again.

Maybe I should take over our finances again and just tell him to suck it up.

I didn't ask to be judged about TTC. That's no ones personal business, but mine. If I wait until we're out of debt to have a kid, that'll never happen or it'll be too long from now to have a kid. I'm not having my kids 10 year apart. I don't even know why I should have to explain myself. I asked about debt, not TTC.

I asked Cam for a trial period of me handling the finances back in 2004. He was doing an awful job of it. He agreed to getting a weekly allowance each Friday and letting me handle everything.

Since then, we have done SO WELL. He even tells guys that give him smurf about it, "Well, we have a house, two nice cars, minimum debt, a savings account, and money in the bank. I'm cool with having an allowance."

I just got off the phone with DH.

(OP, I am going to IM you the information requested)

Anyways, we left 2 credit cards out of the consolidation. Our Discover card for emergencies, and our JC Penny's card in case the kids need clothes. I just found out that the JCP card is in fact paid off though. (Yay)

I told him on the phone I want to take over our finances again. Last time I asked him to give me a 3 month trial period as well (It's the time frame I predicted we would see results). We are going to discuss it tonight and, most likely start that transition tomorrow. Wish me luck!!!

Was double looking the debt. Come to the conclusion that $15,000 is credit cards and $12,000 is our car. So not as bad as I thought. The car is a fixed payment for five years (which I hope to pay off sooner, but if not, no interest is being added to that principal balance). I estimate I am putting out $420 a month between all credit cards. If I can snow ball a few once they're paid off, I bet I could pay off $15,00 within 2-3 years or less. Problem is that DH is going to loose one of his jobs next fall when the business closes and I fear us loosing $600 a month that we're used to having as that's 3/4 our house payment. I don't want to loose our house. I am looking for a second job or a better/stable full time job and I am hoping that comes to me by next fall.

Seems you're ALWAYS in posts cutting people down and being rude. Settle down or go elsewhere. I'm not going to put up with it. I was never rude to anyone else therefore there is no need to be rude to me.

Just ignore her.
She feels better about herself when she is rude to others.

You know you are not a "cheap smurf" so don't even let her get to you.
