SO's Mom & I were at Babies R Us last week looking at carseats. I started to leave that area, and she grabs my arm to keep me from getting far, and tells me I need to go look at the strollers.

I have had zero intention of getting a stroller until she is big enough for a jogging stroller. We live in a 2nd story apartment, getting it up and down the stairs would be a nightmare. I learned with my other three children, that a wrap/sling, is honestly all I need, or want. I explained this to her, and she looked at me like I must be ABSOLUTELY smurfing stupid and told me that I had "better" go look at strollers because it would be a cold day in hell before she carried the baby everywhere. Yes, she will be watching the baby some, because of SO and I's work/school schedules (she is a stay at home mom, and really doesn't leave the house much. A quick trip to the grocery store is about the extent of it.) but it won't be a lot, and mainly not during get-baby-out-and-about kinda hours.

She is extremely put off that I don't see a point in buying a stroller, because it is something that she feels is important to have. SO and I are already getting 2 pack and plays, 2 swings, 2 bouncers, etc, so that she has one at her house. I don't want to spend another 200 on a stroller, when she'll be the only person who feels it is nessicary, and it will just sit down there unused. Once we get around to getting a jogging stroller, she can definitely by all means use it, but we don't plan on getting it until she is old enough to use it.

Tell her she is more than welcome to buy a stroller and keep it in the trunk of her car. I freaking hate strollers, I rarely used them, I either carried them or made them walk as soon as they were old enough. Strollers are a pain in the ass.

I keep a stroller in my trunk. Carrying DD all the time was a strain on my back.

ETA: when DD was a baby, I got a graco frame stroller at a thrift store for $4 so I used that

I don't think you should have to purchase it if she's the one that wants to use it. If you know you won't use it don't waste the money. There are plenty of resale stores where she could buy a cheap one to keep at her house. My mother bought everything they use at their house for our children.

Agreed!!!!!!! I hate fighting with them, I hate trying to find an out of the way place in the house to store it where it's still easy to get to, getting it up and down the stairs would be a nightmare, and just....no. I like wraps and slings, they're so much easier, smaller, they're easier than carrying...

I did suggest that she can buy a stroller if she feels she needs one, but she just looked at me like I'm a moron (yeah, she does that a lot) and said "Well, its YOUR baby. Why should I buy it?!"

This woman makes me feel so thankful for my Mom lol....she has a fully stocked baby supply, and it's all stuff she has purchased when she felt it was needed.

I didn't realize this wasn't your mom...what a bitch. I would have told her that 'it'll be a cold day in hell' before I let some cranky bitch force me into buying for 200$ something for HER to use.

I agree. You shouldn't have to spend your money on something that SHE wants for a kid that isn't even hers.

Personally I love using my wrap for my kids and I sold my stroller and don't plan on buying another one.

we bought a stroller and we're gonna leave it in the trunk of our SUV...if she wants it so bad she can buy it...babies are expensive and if she wants to spend that kind of money on it she can!

No. I just blatantly put my opinion because I like to type a lot.

My input was: I prefer having a stroller still even though I didn't think I'd use it and thought I'd be a baby wearer all the time. Especially on long trips.

Yeah, it's SO's Mom. My Mom bought baby stuff with the other kids...this is SO's mother's first grandkid. She's so frustrating....

I always liked a stroller because we took a lot of walks, however, if you aren't going to be using it, you shouldn't be buying it. If she wants one so depserately, she can buy one for her house because, like you said, she will be home most of the time.

When J was little though, we had the graco frame as well so we just plopped the carseat into that. Maybe she can look into buying one of those instead if she's really intent on having one.

Ok. Which is all well and good. But still pretty unrelated.

I have 3 kids. I know I prefer babywearing and detest strollers.

It is my boyfriend's mother that wants the stroller. She doesn't feel she should have to buy it since it is our baby, but this is an item that only she will use, that will stay at her house.
