Potty Training Boy

posted 17th Mar
My son is 2y8ms old and still uses diapers. I was thinking of getting him some of those huggies easy ups and some pull ups. He does this thing where, when he needs to go poo he hides in the bathroom and closes the door, lol. I'm just thinking like' since you're already in there why don't you sit on the potty? I know he's getting too old that's why I want to ask, what's the best method to potty train him or how did you get your son to use the potty?

Skip the Pull Ups, go straight to underwear.

Set up a reward chart.

Also, he isn't getting "too old". Children potty train on their own schedule....pushing him could cause him to regress.

the way my mom did it with my brother was when he had to go at home she would put him the shower\bathtub and tell him to aim for the hole since it was easy to clean up if he missed vs cleaning the floor or walls in the bathroom. when he got good at hitting the hole in shower\tub she moved him to the toilet and told him you see the hole in the bottom of the toilet? hit the hole. i plan to do that with myy son when i have one.

Don't use pull ups.

My sister trained her boy at about 2 years 6months. and he was was completly trained, day and night, no accedants at all but 2 years 9months.

It started by her reading him a book at bed time called "pirate petes potty" (i think it was called that.) and he just said not wearing a nappy tomorrow. and he didn't. he went on the potty every time and refused nappies from then on. and he's never had an accedent. except once when someone gave him a drink too later with her knowing. lol. he's 3 in april.

oh. i should also say it really helped having his "big boy pants". he loves them.
especially the fire truck ones. lol

Pull ups are just another diaper in my opinion. I had my son sit on the little potty and play a game on the ipad until he peed (probably accidentally). I made such a big deal about it - jumped around, danced, woohoo'd, clapped. He was so excited that he wanted to do it again for the same reaction.

We're still working on poop though. I got him to sit on the actual toilet (he was terrified of it before) but he has yet to poop.

Good luck.

If you know he's hiding in the bathroom why don't you go in here and sit him on the toilet?

If I intrude he'll hold it in until the next day, he's in his phase where he throws tantrums over the littlest things. But, come tomorrow I'll start busting that door open lol

yea i thought so to. i do believe it`ll be easier doing it that way with a boy since they stand up the majority of the time to pee. cleaning up their little mess when they miss would be easier during the time they are learning to aim.
