What medications and things to they do to keep you out of labor for weeks? At what point do they stop giving them.....36 weeks, right?

TIA.

I wasn't on bed rest but they did try to stop my labor at 37 weeks but it didn't work.

I wanna say it's magnesium to stop labor.

That what Google told me but there is a specific name I'm trying to think of. It's a shot, I think. I got it once at 35 weeks but that was it, and I don't know if they can keep giving it everyday.

If you don't mind me asking, why would they try to stop it at 37 weeks? Isn't that term?

I got procardia and magnesium (at different times) for pre-term contractions and high BP. But the hospital I was flown to (super high BP not responding to meds) has a good NICU and told me they don't stop labor or give you steroids after 34 weeks.

That's what I was wondering, too!

It's terbutaline shots. You typically get 2 in so many hours then if you are still progressing they give you magnesium.

Is procardia the steroid shot? Or the one that stops contractions?

Yeah I'm not sure they wanted to keep her in until 38 weeks. I had two shots but it only slowed it so they went ahead and did my c-seaction.

Is there a "brand" name for those? I think that's the one I got in the hospital. I wasn't in labor though, just having contractions. It made my heart race.

I don't believe so but by your description I'm sure that's what you got. The side effects are terrible and one of the main ones is a racing heart beat.

That's actually a medicine for contractions and blood pressure. At least that's what they told me. Made me sick as hell but worked, short term. Then they did the mag sulfate and i wanted to die. I dread the end of my next pregnancy, I'll be terrified to get pre-e again.

Mag sucks! I was sure I was dying while on it lol. I could barely keep my eyes open, my speech was slurred, uhh hate that stuff. But it bought my babies a few more days inside.
