Hair cutting?
posted 16th Mar
My son is almost 8 weeks old, and he was born with a full head of shaggy hair. Since he was born, many many people have asked when I'm going to cut his hair. I've heard you're supposed to wait till a year, but don't know the reasoning behind that. I have no intentions of cutting his hair, but wanted input from other mom's. When did you do a first hair cut?

You definitely don't have to wait a year. You can do it any time you feel it's needed.
I trimmed DD's bangs at about 13m because they were in her eyes and she didn't like barrettes. Otherwise I don't cut it until she asks. She likes her long hair and would cry if I cut it off.

I cut my Sons hair at 9 months and wished I had done it sooner.

My first son needed/had a haircut two weeks after he was born and continued to have monthly trims to keep it out of his eyes and off his ears

If they need it, anytime is find.
In some cultures women shave their babies heads right after their born so that they will grow new "fresh" hair that wasn't in the womb, lol.
I think there are other reasons behind it but I'm not sure.

A lot of people kept saying, "oh it'll fall out." But it hasn't. It touches his ears, and honestly I love it, and think he'd look strange without it.

I will probably wait as long as possible to cut DD's hair, but I've heard of people cutting it quite early but never heard you have to wait a year. Do whatever you think, you can use lotion if no skin issues to keep it back or go to a trained stylist who has experience cutting very young baby hair. Nice lil history leason, D.D.F., never knew that!

You can cut it whenever you want to, you have to wait any predetermined amount of time.
My babies were born pretty bald so they both had their first haircuts around their second birthdays.

I shaved my daughter's head about a week after she was born. She was born with a ton of hair. It's a thing we do in our culture and then we weigh it and give charity in its weight in silver, obviously converted to USD. She's never had a haircut since, except her bangs, and it's super long past her butt, she's 3 1/2.

I was told the same thing about my sons hair... Yet I cut it when he was 6 months old (he was also born with a full head of hair)
Do whatever you want mama, you know what's best for your child.

DS was born with an uneven mullet, I cut his hair when he was a few weeks old. His next hair cut was when he was 10 months old.

My son was born with a full head of straight hair. It didn't grow very fast though, so he got his first haircut at 7m.
My daughter's hair is very curly (she's biracial) and getting long, but I wouldn't even begin to know how to cut it. Her daddy's family would kill me I think lol. So I just pull it up or back to keep it out of her eyes, she's 1yo.
