What's a fever?

posted 16th Mar
In a 6 almost 7 month old? (she was a preemie if it even matters)

I went to the ER without DD for myself being sick. I told them she isn't as sick as me yet but she doesn't seem great. They said it should just pass but if not call her pedi Monday morning (she actually has an appt Monday anyway).

He said in the meantime if she gets a fever over 100.4 to bring her to the ER. I thought that was for under 3 months only? He did say between 100.4 and 102 but either way the start seemed low to me. Also it confused me that he gave the highest number as 102, like it's not allowed to go over that, lol.

But anyway, is this right? I should bring her in at 100.4?

That is low! I wouldn't go in to the ER unless it was staying above 103 with meds.

I was told not to bring my kids in unless they have a fever above 103, because it's usually not anything serious. 100-101 fevers are for babies under 3 months.

That's what I thought, that at this age the temp is 102 or 103 is the start of when you worry. But the Dr said 100.4

I know I'm so confused now. Could he have said so low because he thinks we both may have strep? (well he thinks I do but obviously it's easier for her to catch). I'm just trying to figure out why he said that. He knows how old she is.

Me either lol. When she had her 4 month shots I was told medicate at 101.5 by her pedi. At least I think...Lol I don't remember but I do know she said something about 101.5 being a fever at some point.

Strep is a high fever, so probably not.

I'm so confused lol. I guess I'll just keep an eye on her. I feel really feverish but so far she seems okay. Just really crabby.

Honestly you'll know when/if to take her to the ER it's really when she acts sluggish and you'll just know lol. I just went through this with my dd who spiked a 105 fever

With low grade fevers it's fine to leave them be. this might help
