2nd guessing

posted 16th Mar
How do you keep from 2nd guessing yourself on your parenting when everyone else is doing EVERYTHING different and telling you that you're wrong or just to over protective.

most people i know that have had babies close to when DD was born (few months before and few months after), they've been giving them food since about 2 months, and putting cereal in their bottles, etc. all things that i was told are totally wrong. The thing is, i've been fighting to get DDs weight up (due to her pedi always on about it), and all these babies are fat happy babies...

I guess I just always remind myself that I'm doing what's best...I breastfed my son until he was four and I got a lot of smurf for it.

wow, idk if i could do that! but more power to you! i was actually told that by not putting cereal in DDs bottle it was "just me being a 1st time mom" really?

Don't second guess yourself. She's prolly be small whether she had it or not if she's just genetically petite. You're doing great. Follow your instinct and don't succumb to peer pressure.

i just don't worry about it...because I will just stress myself out. You can't always compare yourself with what other people do..you will drive yourself nuts. Keep doing what you think its best and what makes you comfortable!

i keep telling myself that she's just little (which most of my family says too) but i can't help but worry I'm the one doing something wrong...

You're not. What they're doing is so wrong.

i try not to judge, but i can't help but think this too....i don't say anything because what they do is their business, and i try to stick with "whatever works for them". but they make me feel like i'm an idiot

yeah...i bet 95% of the people on bg will tell you NOT to put rice cereal in bottles! my baby is naturally really small too. She is 17 lbs and will be a year old in 2 weeks. I am always hearing about like 3 month olds being 14 to 17 lbs...and i'm like how?! lol

see, a lot of my family have heard me talk about BG and they don't like it. they think most of the info (if not all) is crap. i try telling them that i researched it myself but they don't believe me. so the women here telling me not to is not enough argument for them.

DD is just now 15 lbs @ 9.5 months!

.. Because cereal in the bottle is a choking hazard. As in.. you could cause your baby to choke.

Then there's that whole thing about feeding babies too early will cause permanent digestive issues.

But as a parent, you need to listen to people's advice, then research it on your own time. Its your job as a parent to give your children the best with your full knowledge, don't just go off what someone will tell you or tell you not to do.

my SO gets mad that i do research everything (idk why) he thinks i'm being too paranoid about everything...but i don't see what is wrong with educating myself.

my DD weighed about 15lbs around then....so i think she seems at a good weight!
