The picture on the top is the item that I'll be adding to my shop.

She asked me too, "Is this an item that you were looking to add, or is it to custom?"

I just didn't answer and said something like, "Well I did have a different idea in mind."

I want to do more of a round one, without a flap, I couldn't attach the flap correctly in this one, but she won't mind because she's getting it at discount anyways. To give it more structure without having to add a whole lot.

The one I'll be officially adding to my shop I'll be doing in the next 3 weeks, as it will be the one I'm designing for my niece for her birthday.

I forgot to add too. She demanded all the fabric back. Even though like she said, "It's only 6 inches of flannel" (so like 6 inches by 30 or less inches).

She said I couldn't keep it.

Whatever, I included all the scraps and everything, even the strips. Call me rude, but like DH said, "Don't keep anything, even if she says you can. You don't want a repeat of the dresser incident" of 09.

God it sounds like because she is a designer that she thinks her bag design is superior to the ruffle one. And I agree with you that the ruffle one is a better one for your shop. She seams mad that you are not going with "her" design!

dose she even have any use for the fabric? Dose she craft?

She is weird. I hate when people who are good at one type of craft or art automatically think that means they understand another type. Like my good friend who is a fabulous designer wanted to make jewelry as gifts for all her friends. Well She is not a jewelry maker. So she did not use the best materials.(but the colors were wonderful) and everyone item broke!

I think your SIL thinks because she is good at design that she knows how to make a back pack design. Only she dose not know about patterns and things like that.

IDK maybe I am wrong but that is how this seams

She does see things that no one else sees. She thinks that most bazaar patterns and colors go together, where a lot of us are sitting back scratching our heads. The back pack matches well, but the turquoise? I don't see how it goes on the backpack at all!

She has a major in interior decorative design with a minor in studio arts(aka painting photo etc). So yeah, she thinks that she does know more than other people.

Even though interior design is her forte(at to me it just looks cluttered, to each their own), she does do some smaller things, like she makes some awesome headbands.

But when I tried to give her constructive criticism on how her daughter's felt hat kept collapsing on halloween, she got defensive! I tried to explain it away like, well I've just made that mistake, I just wanted to help you for next time so it stands upright better.

The flannel she'll use for flowers for headbands. But in all honesty, who knows when she'll do them as the fabric she gave me for the backpack, is apparently also the same fabric that she had wanted me to make a diaper bag for her over 2 years ago when she was pregnant with her last child, and it fell through because her husband was buying her, "This awesome sewing machine for Christmas."

but then it turned out that it was a cheap machine and not very good. So now, in turn, she's coming to me, instead of being frustrated with her machine.

So frustrating. Who knows how long she'll keep it till she uses it.

She also told me, "I have a fabric addiction, I see a nice print, and I pick up small amounts."

It just make me go   no wonder your husband only gives you a cash allowance when you leave the house.

I was trying to find a picture of some of her paintings but since I deleted her off of FB I can't see any of them. She's a very talented artist as far as painting goes.

ETA I found one
She used fabric strips to drape on the canvas then painted over them a picture someone took of her.

I do all sorts of art and Photography is my first love but I do not get defensive, because I know I don't know it all. Most people don't. From the things you say about her I would say it almost sounds like she is jealous of you. I mean I have no idea what the truth is... just how it sounds.

Her art is good. It is very good. Not my type and nothing I would put in my home but it is still very good. So just like how you would like the ruffle back pack... she likes the pouches

Yeah she has paintings that she's done all over her house, and a lot of them I just don't understand. But they're her view and her personality. Just like the backpack.

I don't know if she's jealous. I have no idea how she spends her time. But considering that I have my hands full enough with 2 kids home during the day, and don't have much time for much else, I wonder what she does, but I don't ask.

I just totally thought we were making a toy backpack, something to house toys, and not something that she would wear all the time.

So when I saw the design it was just wow.

There were also 6 other designs and drawings. The first one being easy, the 2nd one being harder, until she got to the 6th drawing and it was the finally one we decided to do.

To each their own. I guess secretly I wish I would get paid better for it though. Just having to deal with her and her visions is frustrating and stressful. To barely get paid for it, I guess is just better than not.

In the end she took them because she felt bad because she kept changing her mind! And we had to leave it at that. "</blockquote>

And then you have people like me who just say " whatever u think is best I trust you!"   haha

And I LOLed at " the dresser incident of 09" !!!

She is a talented painter. And I like her imaginative style (not my style but its good for the style I think she's going for). I'm pretty open minded about artwork. While it may not be my taste I can appreciate the workmanship still.

Well it's true!

I would of loved to line my nieces backpack with that beautiful baby blue taffeta!

But DH said don't do it!

I was just reading through the emails to get to that picture too, and I saw the emails, we had already put her entire room together, buying a crib to match the color of the dresser and everything. So we had her entire room set up when they decided to take it back.

I still can't believe that I delivered only a week after they took it back. That still amazes me how close they pulled that on me. I was helping them haul it out too!
