Induced Labor (First Pregnancy an Terrified)

posted 16th Mar
High blood pressure is the cause of this induction I may have to undergo(An the possible havings of preeclampsia the test results are not in yet). This is my first baby and quite frankly I am terrified. For many reasons really. I understand my high blood pressure can cause harm to me and my child which scares me most of all because I want so badly for my baby to be healthy, and okay. I have never experienced child birth or even surgery at that. An now I will have to be hospitalized, monitored, and have my child earlier than I anticipated. Of course being 37 weeks I could have her any day but I was hoping she would go her full 40 weeks. Can anyone tell me what to expect, and maybe how long after being induced did you actually go into labor or even have your baby? My cervix is softened, and I am only dilated 1cm plus.

Expect to be bored at first. You won't be able to get out of bed if they use Pitocin. I was induced at 9 am and had my little girl at 8:32 that night. It could take longer as well. Just try to remember to relax and that pretty soon you will get to see you're baby girl

From the time they started pitocin to delivery was 18-19 hours.
They had put cervidal in first though which jump started my labor the night before.

No one is going to be able to tell you how long the induction and birth will take, everyone is so different. I was induced with my second and from start to finish it took 8 hours. I only pushed for 15 mins. I had and epidural and no complications. Do not be scared of the hospital the nurses and doctors are ususlly super nice. Oh, I was only dialated to 1cm when I was induced.

First off, don't be scared. Being anxious and scared can make labor worse. It's a mind over matter thing. Just relax and go with it

I got pitocin at 11am and had my daughter at 6:29 that same night.

Everything went wonderfully. I was induced for Pre-E at 43 weeks.

I loved my labor and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Thanks everyone you have made me 80% less scared lol. I was thinking it would take days or something I had no clue. But I'm glad I have some what of an estimate if time that she could be delivered.

My induction felt like a cake walk. I was expecting labour alone to be horrid but knew it was supposed to be worse with pitocin. They started my pit and broke my water at 8am and he was born at 4:55pm. It was all so easy. I did get an epi at 4:00pm but that's was just cause I was so tired from not sleeping for a full 24 hrs(had a bad night the night before my induction.)
The epi help me relax which help my body dilate from 6.5cm-10cm in 45 mins!

Every induction, labor, and delivery is different.

In general, if you are not making progress, or your induction lasts longer than 24 hours, they will bring up a c section.

Inductions can be harder on mom and baby, and it has more risks involved.

I don't say that to scare you, just to inform you. Do some research, look at all the options, and choose what is best FOR YOU.
Oh, and don't let them use cytotec on you at all. Refuse it. They can use cervidil instead

I had pitocin (foolishly by choice) this was my first child also. They started the pitocin at 7 am on the 19th and my baby boy was born at 8:55 on the 20th. It definitely wasn't a cake walk but it wasn't horrible. The actual pushing part was easy. It only took nine pushes. It was the rest of the crap that sick. And there was a scary moment where his HB dropped every time I pushed and we were discussing c section. Thankfully I was able to deliver vaginally.

I was induced with my daughter at 38 wks for high blood pressure. They didn't ise the pitocin but did the pill inside me to help my labor along. They did the pill at 730am and I had a healthy baby at 806pm.   It was one of the best experiences ever. It wasn't bad, and I was able to walk around for a little bit until my blood pressure shot up and her heart beat dropped... but in the end.. we were both fine.

I was induced at 34 weeks due to pre-e and it wasn't so bad. They started the process at midnight on the 18th. Went 33 hours and had to have a c-section due to failure to progress and she was decelling.
I didn't think it was that bad, not even the section.

I don't want to scare you but just give you some more info. I also was induced at 38 weeks due to high blood pressure. I was not dilated or efaced at all and they used cervidil and pitocin. I was not allowed to get out of bed. I was started on cervidil at 9 am on friday. I did not have my son until 12:27 am on monday morning. I did have a really bad dr so most doctors will not let you labor that long but don't expect a short labor just because other people had a short labor every labor and body is different. Hopefully since you are already partially dilated yourself it will be much quicker and smoother for you than me.

I was induced with my first at 38 weeks due to my arthritis, and he is now a happy healthy 2 year old. They'll put an iv in you, and for a while, you won't notice anything, but you'll soon feel contractions and active labor. They will keep a close eye on you to monitor contractions, and you *may* feel the pressure of the baby when he/she is ready to come, even through an epidural (it didn't hurt, but I felt the pressure). Total it took me 10 hours, but only 4 good pushes. My youngest brother was induced 8 weeks early, and I most likely will be induced with my little kickboxer now (I'm 31 weeks, but she's measuring 33 so they're concerned about growth - I've been 2 weeks ahead for 3 months!), but I've seen enough that you should be absolutely fine. Good luck!

Don't panic I was high risk pre clampsia my whole pregnancy. I had a scheduled induction I was lucky I went into labor hours before I was supposed to be induced Just do what the doctors say relax keep your stress level down they will not let you go past 39 weeks but at least baby should be born full due and healthy.
