My state offers 8 weeks paid maternity leave as well as an additional 6 weeks paid family leave. I ended up taking off from the end of April 2010 to the middle of August on pregnancy disability (4 weeks prior to due date, and 15 weeks after). My state actually offers a year of disability insurance that can be used for complicated pregnancies and I had 3 weeks of vacation saved as well. So... anyway, that was nice. A little complicated but nice.

You can look and see if your state offers temporary disability leave. Many states do if you've worked full time for at least a year.

I had to go out just before 30 weeks with my twins, had them at 36 weeks and went back to work 8 weeks after my csection... So about 14 weeks I was out? It was long enough that short term disability ran out and I was told to apply for long term but since I was going back to work in like a week I just let it go. With FMLA they do not have to hold your position anymore after 12 weeks, I think I was lucky my boss felt generous and held a brand new position for me to go back to. I had to have a doctors note and the shirt term disability people went back and forth with my doctors FOREVER until they finally started to pay me. Also since I was out for over 12 weeks they did not have to pay for my insurance anymore and I though I would have to go on Cobra, but HR was also very nice to me and just let it go since I was coming back to work so soon. The entire ordeal was a giant pain.
