Whats the difference?

CIO is when you leave your child to basically cry themselves to sleep. A tantrum is when the child is throwing a fit.

As a parent you should be able to tell when your child is throwing a tantrum and genuinely scared and in need of comfort.

Stupid enter button, clicked too soon. Generally, a child who is old enough to throw an actual tantrum is passed the CIO stage anyway.

Ah ok, thank you. I asked because DD is almost 4 and throws a fit everytime I put her to bed. I was wondering if that was still considered CIP

At 4 it is most likely just a tantrum. But don't underestimate the fears of a small child. I remember being terrified of the little crack in the curtains and could swear someone was watching me. If there isn't any need not being met, no real fear, it's just a tantrum. Set up a good bedtime routine and stick with it for a week. Most likely she will get to be a going to bed pro.

Ive been doing a routine since she was a year old. She screams 80% of the time even if I stay in the room with her.

Mine went through that phase too. Bedtime is just hit or miss if she goes through the routine or if she fights every step of thee way.
