climbing

posted 15th Mar
My 14 month old climbs on everything! It scares the smurf out of me , I'm so afraid she is going to fall but when I tell her no or to get down she just laughes and does it again. Any suggestions?
She climbed up on the kitchen table yesterday. :/

I haven't really considered time out because of she doesn't listen when I tell her no, she isn't going to listen when I try to make her sit in one spot.
I guess I could always strap her in her chair though...

DS does the same stuff. We have to distract him to get him down without him screaming. He scares the crap out of me everyday finding new stuff to climb all over. Best thing I can suggest is to find something to distract her from immediately getting back up on whatever she is on.

the trick with time out is being consistent and not raising your voice or showing frustration with her not listening. you have to keep reminding her to sit and use a timer, if she gets up, restart the timer. explain to her that when she stays in the chair until the timer goes off then she can get out. at this point she is in control, you gotta take back that control mama. you can do it, just takes persistence.

Thank you ma'am. I will have to try that.

I'm not so sure she would really grasp the concept though . She is only 14 months old I just don't think she is going to understand the time limit

I don't think they can really understand at 14 months. I can't get DS to sit on the couch with me, I highly doubt I would be able to get him to sit in time out for a whole minute or whatever time. I plan to start time outs around 18 months. DS is 14 months too btw.
