Has your baby ever done this?

posted 15th Mar
Our baby is 9 weeks old and normally has 15mls from breastfeeding (thats all that she gets pumping) an 120mls formula. He had a feed at 6am and only had 85mls but at the 10am feed he breastfed then wouldnt drink any formula. He closed his mouth and wouldnt open it and would pertrude his tongue. We tried for an hour to get him to feed and burped him incase he has gas and changed him etc but still he wouldnt eat. Its now 12 and he is fast asleep.

Has your baby ever done this? Was there a reason they did this?

Could there be something wrong with him or is he just not hungry?

He just got full, probably. How do you know how much he was getting from the boob when he breastfed? Or do you mean you pumped and fed it to him? A lot of the times, your baby gets a lot more from the breast than you get when you pump. He may have filled up when you BFed him.

Sounds like he was full. My daughter does the same thing after she breastfeeds. Baby is much more efficient on the breast than the pump is.

Caitlyn's milk still hasnt come in fully. We have been using hospital pumps to see how much she is pumping and weighing him before and after breastfeeding. She only gives out milk for 4 minutes and then shes dry.

Hes been eating that much for weeks. Why would he suddenly be full today?

poking the tongue usually means they are done for now.

Im guessing that babies may have different appetites like us? If the baby is asleep id be fairly happy that hes not hungry.

edit- maybe her supply has gone up too since that was after breast.

I'd ditch the pump for the most part. It's not an accurate way to really tell how much baby is getting. Offer the breast before the formula. If he acts like he's not getting enough, then you can give him formula. Her milk probably isn't going to come in very well if she's just pumping for the most part and offering formula first. Do lots of skin to skin as well. Good luck!

Maybe he just isnt hungry.

It was yesterday that she pumped so it should be accurate. I know its not the same which is why they weighed him. He always gets breast then bottle. We have tried him on just breast several times and he gets severely dehydrated fast and loses a huge amount of weight. Our medical professional has told us we need to get the 120 into him. We have been to family centres to get them to help us and show us techniques.

sounds like baby was full... when my kids didn't finish the amount they usually did, they would have to poop, lol, then once they exploded, they would almost eat double, lol
i exclusively pumped, and i loved it, tell her to hang in there, hopefully milk comes in soon, and at least baby was sleeping,   goodluck

He isnt a pooping baby. He poops every 2-3 days which is normal for him so he could just have a lot in him.

Yeah they are trying to encourage her to give up breastfeeding. Shes on domperidone and that did nothing, they tried 24 hour pumping to encourage the milk and nothing, shes been to a lactation consultant and she couldnt find anything and now our last resort is tiger milk and brewers yeast powder in stuff. She wanted to give up 6 weeks ago so pushing her this far to still keep trying is an achievement. If this doesnt increase it I think she will jsut fully bottle feed him.

Yeah he would be screaming if he was still hungry.

Thank you
