posted 15th Mar
I will be induced at 37 weeks because of pre-eclampsia and I was just wondering how the process works, I asked my doctor and he just said we will discuss it that week, so I was wondering if you could share your stories this is my first so Im not sure what to expect

Not everyone has a horrible experience but mine was! I don't want you to get freaked out reading mine, lol.

I was induced at 40weeks 5 days, and it was horrible. I got there at 7pm, they inserted the Cervidil, which is supposed to help thin your cervix over a period of 12 hours. At 7am, they checked and it did nothing. Then they started me on the pitocin. I was okay, dilating good and the pain was tolerable, until 7cm. I was STUCK for 3 hours and my blood pressure was sky high! I blacked out during those 3 hours, my husband remembers everything and I remember nothing. They called my OB for a c-section and he realized I was given too much pitocin, he turned it down and told me to get the epidural to relax me (my body was fighting the amount of pitocin the nurse gave me and wouldn't relax enough to contract), within an hour of turning down the pitocin and getting the epidural I was pushing. My whole labor was 27 hours, start to finish.

I will never get induced again unless its 100% needed, and I will never get an epidural again.

Just wanted to say good luck, I was apart of an induction a month or so ago to a Mom at 35 weeks, and the baby was fine, just needed a little help.

Just ask if they will give you steroids or anything for the baby and what circumstances you would be considered for if they thought a c section was needed.

Remember that in the hospital they are ready for anything and it is a controlled environment, just make sure you ask all question before your in the hospital gown so there are no surprises. You might wanna bring whatever support you will have in the delivery room to the appointment with you and let them know they can ask your doctor questions too.

Oh and I would have went to 42 weeks but my blood pressure was very high and the medicine I was taking wasn't working anymore. (started at 30weeks, taking it 3 times a day and doing NST scans twice a week) That's the only reason I was induced.

I felt like the epideral helped me relax enough to allow me body to do the job. The pain of the contractions when they got too intense stalled it and the first time I gave birth they gave me pit, even though I was progressing fine, and that stalled my labor. My body is like that, when it's under stress it just clamps up.

But back to the subject. You will do fine. Just take it one moment at a time and you will get through it. Honestly, I have seen women work amazingly with inductions far more than the ones that don't. And like 15 of my friends, we all gave birth around the same time, all of them were induced. Only one needed a c-section and only had a hard induction. I was the only person out of the group that went naturally, on my own at 41 weeks and 4 days. My baby girl is stubborn like her momma.

Don't stress on things you can not change. You will be fine.

I was induced because of high blood pressure and many warning signs of pre-e. I had a few stretch and sweeps and lots of testing at 37 weeks, 2 day. At 37 weeks, 5 days I was given Cervidil. I had a lot more testing before I was allowed to go home. We met back at the hospital at 7 am to have that one removed and the next inserted (Cervidil is a gel on a tampon like applicator that sits next to your cervix to help it dilate).

After more testing, I was able to go home again and we went back to the hospital for 7 pm. I started having very mild contractions around 4 or so.

I was given the option of staying at the hospital and getting the pitocin then or going home and hope to go into active labour on my own. I chose to go home (my tests were still okay). I laboured through the night and went back to the hospital for 10:30. I was given an IV and the pitocin was started (I hate needles and the IV, by far, the worst part of the whole experience). I was checked and my cervix was 3 cm dilated, stretchable to 5 cm.

I sat on an exercise ball watching a video we had brought. My doula held a pressure point on my hand and encouraged me to moan in low tones. After a while she got the bath ready. Lunch came during this time and I tried to eat a little but I wasn't hungry.

I spent transition in the tub and then got out and my daughter was born an hour later on the hospital bed, 4 hours after the pitocin was started.

It was amazing! I had planned to give birth at home and was a little disappointed about being induced, but I couldn't have imagined a better birth experience!

Best of luck to you!

I went in contracting some (I think my body was starting to do it's own thing)... I got Pit. at 5:30 or so... they had it on 2, then 4... and then 6... at 7:30 my water broke as the doctor was coming in to break my water.. he still had to break some of it, because of a pocket... well then my contractions were intense.. and they up'd the Pit to an 8... I got the epidural... by 8:30... at 9:30 I was a 6 and by 10:15ish-10:20 I was fully dilated... my son was born at 10:40 last Friday.

The epidural didn't really do anything from me. The turned down my pitocin and I was a 7 and went to a 9 in less then 15 minutes. I was a 9 as soon as I laid down from the epidural, it hadn't even started working yet! lol Then I was pushing in an hour and they turned it off. But the epidural gave me a big numb spot on my thigh. I'm so against those things now!

I was against it after my first, when it only worked on half my body. But the second birth, the nurse made sure I had laid down to let it settle in and an hour later my baby was out and I didn't feel a thing.

I won't get one my next baby. Did you have a walking epidural? Like you could still move/feel your legs? That's what mine was. I could feel my legs enough to walk, lol.
