We also get child tax and universal tax. Alberta gets family tax benifits... Quebec has 7$ a day daycare, Newfoundland you are paid to have kids... I'm sure I'm missing a bit. I've never had to pay into taxes, we usually get a good amount back yearly.

SO does all of our taxes but we donate a lot of money so we get quite a bit back. You just need to find tax shelters.

My husband and I each got 93% with the top-up too, it was fantastic  . I took off the full year with my first and my husband took off 4 months with our second (I only was paid for 8 months).

To add to your list:
Quebec gets 5 weeks of Paternity leave. It is only for fathers and is not part of the 52 week total.

Haha it was nice. I made him save enough to get put back into his pension, but we went on a few trips. It was nice. My family got to meet my daughter, so it worked out nicely. I'm a SAHM, so he was able to take the full 9 months off.

Getting money back from income taxes is not a good thing, it means that too much was withheld during the year.

Yeah, the USA might get bigger tax returns, but I would rather not have it in bulk. If I REALLY wanted it in bulk, I'd wait to apply for my child tax

I'm currently on unpaid leave to stay home with my children. If we had another child right now, my husband would take off the maximum time  . It would be a surprise for us though.

I remember the first time I heard of a co-worker taking off that much time to stay home with his wife and new baby. I did think it was a little strange (I was young), now I think it would be wonderful!

A friend of mine had a baby earlier this year and was already a SAHM, her husband works for an American company, I think his manager lives in the US, they were very surprised when he took off two months after his child was born. I don't know if he ever told them that he could take off 8!

I think the time my husband took off was way too long for how little help he is, haha

I'm paying $400/m for insurance right now... lol and CVS sucks because it covers pretty much the Minute Clinic, well baby visits and only like 2 prenatal appointments... so yeah lmao

I understand. When my husband and I were both off for 4 months we didn't do much out of the house, it seems like we just took turns sleeping. He did entertain our older child though  .
