Natural birth dreams crushed
posted 15th Mar
I was hoping to try no epi this time. But last night I burned myself with pure tea tree oil (I thought you put it on pure but it was horrible!) and I was screaming stomping and wanted to die.. I felt trapped in hell.. It was bad..
Now I just know I could never do a natural birth
I feel so weak...
I've dropped the idea entirely..
How do people handle pain?
I just can't!

Don't tell yourself you can't do it....if you (in labor) just keep telling yourself it's not an option, it helps. NAtural labor went a LOT faster for me rather than my epi labor with my first. I am hoping to try again this time but I am a wimp about pain.

Child birth is a TOTAL different pain than that. I had both my kids natural, no pain meds. Just go in telling yourself you can do it and try. If you cant then thats okay too.

Pain from an injury is so much different then labour and birth. I had a pain in my side for a couple of months before my first child was born. I said something similar to my midwives, I was having a difficult time coping with this mild, but constant pain, I wasn't sure I would be able to give birth without pain medication. I was induced and still didn't even consider asking for pain medication, it did help to have a doula to keep me calm when I started panicking during transition though .
Also, I react poorly to injury because I don't know how bad the injury is and I get freaked out but I did a lot before I gave birth and it wasn't scary to me anymore.

I went in thinking I couldn't do it, let the nurses talk me into an epidural because it was hurting and they said "why be in pain when you can relax, and you don't want to be too late and not be able to get it" so I got it at 5cm. It wasn't positioned right so just before I started pushing, it was completely wore off. I felt everything. It hurt pretty bad, but the pain was gone right afterwards, the only pain was crowning where it burned. After her head came out, it was tender but her body came out almost painlessly, (don't get me wrong, it was uncomfortable) it was definitely doable though. I never in my life thought I'd have a pain med free delivery. I always went in thinking "I'm gonna do this with an epi ASAP." Now I know I can do it, I will go natural with my next.
I was also induced, the pitocin kicked my butt. But still, doable. I also have a VERY low pain tolerance. You can do it!

Why not take a birth prep class? If you are prepared its much easier. I am taking a Bradley method class. I would suggest hiring a doula as well. Anyone can do it, it's just mind over matter. If you walk in thinking you are gonna fail, you will. If you walk in thinking you will succeed you will

If it's what you want, go for it. Don't let fear hold you back from at least trying. There are plenty of ways to cope with the pain and discomfort. Labouring at home for as long as possible if you're gonna deliver in the hospital, staying active the whole time (walking with the contractions, leaning into them on a rocking chair or birthing ball), certain massages from your partner or midwife or whoever you'll have there, music, changing up your position and not laying spread-eagle on your back!, being in a warm tub, and hypnobirthing... can't recommend hypnobirthing enough.
If you give it your best but end up going with the epi, that's absolutely fine. We can have hopes for how our children's births go, but it's not entirely within our control.
But seriously, look into hypnobirthing. I was SO relaxed during my son's birth and never felt like I was in pain. There was plenty of discomfort and it was tiring, but no pain. So much of it is just inside your head. You just have to take the reins.

I will still try. I'm just scared. I hope the crowning isn't worse than last nights burn, hah, because that was really bad...
I wrote myself a pep talk I plan to bring and read.
I have a birth ball.
If I don't go into labor before Thursday (39) I get induced due to GD, but the nurse told me we don't have to stay in bed just because if induction and I can still use my ball. I'm glad to hear that.

Quoting Mandy Schlatterer:" I will still try. I'm just scared. I hope the crowning isn't worse than last nights burn, hah, because ... [snip!] ... the nurse told me we don't have to stay in bed just because if induction and I can still use my ball. I'm glad to hear that."
My midwives used a wireless monitor on me during both births (I was induced with my first and had health problems with my second as well, they wanted to use continuous monitoring). I was even able to labour in the bath (and I gave birth in the tub with my second). Ask if they have it available, apparently not all hospitals do because it is very expensive and it is easier to shift out of position if you are moving all about so it is more work for the nurses.

I hate pain but child birth pain is diff since you get your baby at the end of it. I had epi with my first daughter.longest labor ever 18.5 hrrs plus I was too numb to even feel contractions to push.with or without epi your goin to feel the burning from crowning.no escaping that. My 2nd labor completely natural. Hurt soooo much bc it was all back labor but it was shorter only 9.5 hrs and labor sucked do bad I did not ecen care how bad it hurt to push him out bc it woukd feel better out then in, 3rd birth vaginal almost natural. Dumb ass dr gave me stadol for 20 mins when I reached 6 cm.made me feel high as hell and still felt the pain so I told them take that smurf out do other then 20 mins it was natural.it burned like hell 3rd time too but it does not last forever.you can and you shoukd if you want. My 4th is comin in msy im doin all natural no meds again bc thst is what works for my body.drugs just mess with my laboring process.ladt birth was 7.5 hrs.
