Having a drink while pregnant.

Okay I'm sure it's been debated on a million times. However I was reading something last night about having a glass of wine once a week, or having a drink on special occasions etc. I got a mad craving for some blackberry wine last night but didn't give in. I know that they don't know how much alcohol can be harmful to a fetus and what not. So just curious as to your thoughts on it?

I wouldn't, especially since it appears that you're still in the first trimester and the baby's brain and nervous system are still forming. Personally, I'd never drink during pregnancy, but if you can hold off until the third trimester, a glass of wine would probably be harmless.

My OB said that a glass of red wine every now then is okay. I never have, I think I'd be too stressed about it.

It wouldn't be worth the risk to me. I dislike alcohol, so....My opinion may be bias.

From what I read, some dr's believe it's only large amount of alcohol is dangerous. Not sure how true or not true that is though

Yeah I wasn't planning on it anyways. Esp not during the first trimester. It just got me thinking ya know

Pregnant women in other countries still drink occasionally. I don't get why we think we need so many restrictions. Women in Japan are still eating sushi while pregnant. Why shouldn't I? If you are going to have an actual measured serving of wine once in awhile I see no problem. Partying every weekend with friends ? Yea then I see the problem.

I have not and do not plan to during this pregnancy either. I stand behind the belief of why take the chance? When my DS was born and had to go to the NICU for seizures the first questions that every single dr. asked me were

1. Did you use drugs while pregnant
2. Did you drink alcohol while pregnant
3. Did you smoke while pregnant

I felt so relieved that I could answer those questions and not have to worry that something I did may have affected the development of my child.

Because of how early in the pregnancy you are I would say you made the best decision. Though it's unlikely that one glass of wine is going to do major damage it is better to be safe rather than sorry. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a few sips or small glass of wine/beer near the end once baby is fully developed even though I personally probably wouldn't.

Eh, I didn't want anything to do with drinks when I was pregnant. I don't see an issue with woman having a glass of wine every once in a while.

It won't hurt to have one or two now and then, and wine is ok to drink in moderation. I had a couple for New Year's, everything is fine. But I wouldn't recommend it either way.
