Whilst I was pregnant with DS 7 years ago the UK guidelines were you could drink upto 2 units per week and it was required by law that ALL alcohol sold anywhere in the UK must display the guidelines, it was a little silhouette of a pregnant woman with 1-2 per week written under it. I never drank at all once I found out of was pregnant (at around 5 weeks), however prior to that it just so happened I had lots of social events going on during that very time frame and I was drinking quite a lot quite frequently so it was something I was really worried about but luckily DS is absolutely fine. The UK guidelines changed a few years ago though and it is now recommended that pregnant women do not drink at all so the little silhouette of the pregnant woman now has a big red circle around her with a big red line going through her lol!

If I was ever to get pregnant again I wouldn't drink at all, same as last time. I personally don't agree with drinking during pregnancy, I've seen the effects of FASD and I would say the Govermemt here do a good job of trying to warn people about the risks of FASD so I don't think there is any excuse. I understand however for women with an alcohol addiction it's a different ball game and they need help with it.

So deli meat can carry something called Legionella virus due to the meat kind of sitting around waiting to be sliced. I think that as a pregnant woman you can get it so bad that it can cause a miscarriage. All you have to do is buy the deli meat, microwave it until it steams and then it is safe to eat because youhave killed any possible virus that may exist on the meat. Where I work, I wont drink the water here because they have us "flush the pipes" everyday because the water in the city of baltimore may have the same virus.

Listeria

if you heat it til steaming, any potential listeria will be killed.

Only slightly related....I had a friend who was pregnant and would smoke 10 ciggaretts a day becuase "her dr. said it was okay" but refused to have a deli meat subway platter for her baby shower because deli meat was dangerous....so a special effort had to be made to get her some special tuna salad sandwhich for her to eat so she didnt poison her baby with deli meat....::::face palm::::

Nothing wrong with small amounts. I dont see a problem with it but to be on the safer side, I'd avoid it until after the first trimester.
I lost my taste for it or would have enjoyed a glass of wine a few times per week.
My friend's OB PRESCRIBED a glass of wine each night during her last 6 weeks as she was so anxious and nervous about everything.

I had a (small) milkshake thing that was .5 percent at Christmas and I tried a sip of one of my husbands drinks a few Weeks back but that was it. I felt kinda guilty after so I won't try anything else. I CRAVE barefoot pino gritio or something like that wine really bad though but I haven't indulged ;p

When I was pregnant my Doctor asked me if I drank alcohol, smoked, took drugs... the usual questions. I did smoke but quit while pregnant and still am smoke free now. I did drink and during pregnancy had 5 glasses of red wine. I don't take drugs.
Anyway my doctor almost had a fit when he heard how much coffee I drank! He insisted that he would prefer every pregnant woman had 2 glasses of red wine a week than a coffee every day. He also said there are so many things that are more harmful while pregnant than the occasional glass of wine.
I am not advocating drinking while pregnant no more than I am advocating eating sushi but I do believe some people can get their knickers in a twist over it.
I know women who have slapped their pregnant friends if they see them having a tiny sip of wine. Sure if any pregnant friend of mine was drinking it by the bottle I'd be angry with her but once in a blue moon is fine and none of my business.
