Help!

I have just lost my job and my home all in one day. I was a landlord and my husband and I got fired today. We have 7 days to get out of our apartment. I have never had to get Medicare or assistance of any kind. I'm 19 weeks pregnant and my insurance ends on the 30th of this month. Any hints for me? I don't even know where to start

google medicaid for you're area and you should find a website. I was able to apply online. Then they mailed me aletter saying I had to have a phone interview I did that and she asked income questions, when I was due, etc. then I had to turn in verifications of income, pregnancy, also a termination of employment.(i was working 2 jobs prior) Thats all I know about medicaid....The website should tell you some income restriction things which now shouldn't be a problem.

You're welcome. You'll also need information that you're insurance is ending. They lady told me that sometimes medicaid will just pay for cobra since its cheaper. They ended up giving me full medicaid. The cobra thing didn't make any sense to me since my cobra payments were going to me almost 500 a month.

I don't know where in CA you live but to get public assistance you can call 211 or 323-686-0950 if you live in LA county and even if you don't they should be able to direct to some people/programs who can help in your area.

You might also want to see if you can perhaps get help from a local church or shelter, just until you can find a more permanant situation.

The thing that really sucks about this is that I'm 39, hubby is 44 and we thoguht we had it made where we are. Noone ever told us we were doing a bad job. I think it has to do with me becoming pregnant. It's amazing how one minute your life is going along smoothly and the next it's upside down. We will probably go live with his mother for a little while, until he can find a job at least. I just never thought I'd be in this situation at my age and pregnant ontop of it. I'm hoping I'm not hurting the baby by being so stressed. Thaks for all the advice ladies.

Keep in mind that public services are used by a LOT of people and the people who work there can get kinda rude and are not very sympathetic, so make sure you are pushy about what you need and asking all the questions you need to even if they're rude.

I am so sorry... that sucks especially all at once. No I don't think the stress will hurt the baby. I have had huge stress this pregnancy and the doctor said it has not hurt him at all. He is growing above the 50th percentile and seems to be doing great. That being said allow yourself some stress and don't stress about stressing. Good Luck, PM me if you want to.

holy cow! I'm sorry! I thought you had to be given a month to move out. I don't think that's even legal in Michigan.

As long as you are not stressed terribly throughout your entire pregnancy I'm sure it won't harm your baby. Like 5+1 says, keep your dr apptmts and that reassurance will reduce your stress. Hopefully you've learned enough from making those phone calls to set your mind at ease some.
