male or female dog.

posted 15th Mar
we are getting a new puppy!! have a deposit sent in to the breeder already and we will get first choice of the litter, so the big question is-- male or female??? i want male, and my daughter wants a female.

we have a male already from the same breeder, he is of course neutered, and new puppy will come speutered as well so having puppies isnt the issue, ive just always had male animals, they seem more eager to please, more attached to their owner, and just better rounded. females, to me, always seemed more independant and stubborn..

ETA. our current doggy is 4 and is the "alpha" male.. humps our cat, etc. he is 18lbs and new puppy will be between 20-26lbs

so whats your take on it.. do you like boy or girl dogs and why??

this is just for fun

I vote male.
Because female dogs have a period, don't they?

I mean easier on the dog. And easier to take care of them after.

What kind of dog?

I prefer female dogs, I have a female German Shephard and she is the best. She loves my (really their hers...lol) kids and is so good with them.

They SAY females are easier to train, but not really true from what I've experienced. I think both are equally lovable. My dog is a girl, and I wouldn't trade her for the world.
Although my girl dog is less aggressive -- not in a mean way, but more in a physically playful sense, than male dogs I've experienced/been around for a long time. Which could be something to consider if you've got small kids.

schnoodle. she has all of them altered via lazer surgery before placement. its very easy on the dog compared to the "old school" method. and females and males alike only have 1 small stitch (i do believe its a oophorectomy only for females but not sure)

OMG.

I despise "breeders" who breed mutts and call them "designer dogs".

I'll save my rant for another thread though.

i do have small children (7, 5 and 1-- will be 8,6 and 18 months when puppy is ready)
my male dog now is WONDERFUL with the kids, infact, my son (15m) and our dog are best friends. literally. he runs back and forth with a toy in his hand and the dog trots behind him. its so cute. my son also gives the dog hugs constantly and they lay together on the couch lol

I think it doesn't actually matter... if your current dog is the dominant male I would look more for a puppy that displays more submissive characteristics.
