Placenta position.

posted 15th Mar
I met my new midwife the other day & she asked if I knew where my placenta was sitting. I honestly have no idea, this is my 3rd pregnancy and I wouldn't have been able to tell you with the others either. Is that weird? Is it something most women know? Cause I barely know what position my babies are in most of the time.

Also, I've been through one labour with pitocin to 3cm dilated before needing an emergency cesarean and still couldn't tell you what a contraction feels like. I guess I'm really not in tune with my body.

I waspretty sure my placenta was anterior with this pregnancy. Its my 4th and also my 2ndanterior placenta so when movement was muffled feeling and mostly on the left, i thout my placenta anterior and on the right.. And i was right!!!

You can uaully tell by US too, if your baby gets a typical profile shot and you see a fluffy clud like thing thqt follows the top of the uterus thats the placenta and thats the front of your abnomen, so it would be anterior. I could tell it was anterior on my. 8 week ultrasound going back and looking!

It should say it on your ultrasound report

And contractions started out feeling like I had to go to the toilet a bit for me. After a few hours, I could feel them intensifying and then once they became timeable, I knew they were actually doing something. I also ended up on pitocin but that was started when I was at 6cm and I didn't progress after several hours so I needed an emergency c-section too.

Hope that was remotely helpful

If you feel a lot of kicks toward the front of your stomach all over the placenta is probably posterior.

Im fairly sure mines anterior, I dont feel too many kicks directed at the front of my stomach and when I do its as phuket said, muffled.

Lol I only know because at my anatomy scan we had to double check it so I asked where it was. Mine is smack behind the baby in the middle and less than 1cm above my cervix (have had spotting issues)....

I would never be able to just feel my belly and be like "It's behind the baby!" lol

I haven't been able to tell where my placenta is on my own. I feel movement anywhere and everywhere you could possibly feel movement. Yesterday at my specialist ultrasound Jillian was hiding her head behind my placenta, so I found out that mine is to the left and toward my hip bone. Apparently she plays with mine a lot Haha!

I was told by my ultrasound tech that I have a low lying placenta. They checked it because I keep spotting off and on and the tech and doctor said everything looks good, but with my placenta lying so close to my cervix that could be where some of the blood is coming from. It kind of scares me, but they keep telling me everything is fine. But I never would have known where it was otherwise.

That's how mine was. Except it stretched across the whole left side of my belly. And I never got good u/s pics cause she was always snuggled up to it. But if it hasn't been for u/s if never have known. I could feel her just fine.

Wow! Mines not that big yet, Jilly only weighs 2 lbs at the moment but she's like a bull in a china shop in there! During the ultrasound yesterday, that lasted almost an hour, she was hugging her cord and the placenta. I was originally told mine was on top, so I'm not sure how it would have gotten down by my hip bone if it was on top.

At last appt with the Maternal and Fetal Medicine Doctor, I asked the ultrasound tech where mine was. She showed me, it is Posterior up high....a good ways from the cervix. So that was good!

I started with previa and my placenta was abnormal and it just stretched and I had two placentas.

Yeah I had all sorts of problems. I posted my whole story a couple posts back. It'll take forever to read but it's interesting.

I had two placentas with my last pregnancy but nobody picked it up until the c-section! I needed that due to other issues but they found out that I had one placenta connected to me which didn't want to detach and the other which came out normally. They said that if I'd delivered vaginally, I would have either bled like crazy or got a bad infection. In a way, I'm lucky! Although, I don't know how they never noticed it.
