Daiper Rash

posted 15th Mar
Hello mamas

I have a one month old who continues to have rash no matter what I do. I've changed the brand of his wipes and daipers and the rash just comes back. I'm thinking he is allergic to all disposable daipers period. I wanted to know if any other mothers have experienced this? Any suggestions on good cloth daipers? I'm thinking of switching to cloth in hopes that the rash disappears forever. Any advice would be helpful. TIA =)

I dont know if you have them where you live but we are about to start using Baby First and Pea Pods. They are good except they leak if your baby has skinny legs.

Get some prefolds & covers to start with. You can use reuse covers unless there's poo(then you have to wash them). You would get those quickest. cottonbabies.com makes good prefolds & delivers in less than a week. Alvababy.com & sunbaby.com make good diapers too. They work different from prefolds though & can only be used once unless they are all in 2 diapers.(if they are, you have an insert that snaps in so you just replace that). Each diaper is from $4-6 on alva & sunbaby. Getting used ones is not bad either. Join the cloth diapering thread if you have more questions

I have used Thirsties before with kids I nannied for and liked them.

My stash has Charlie Bananas, Bumkins, Kissaluvs, Rumparooz, Best Bottoms, and Thirsties, and is a mix of all-in-ones (where the diaper is basically the same as a disposable), pockets (which are water-proof diapers with soft material inside that makes a pocket you stuff with liners to customize absorbency needed), and waterproof covers that can be used either with prefolds (flat cloths that you fold in thirds to line) or fitted cloth diapers (that baby wears like a normal diaper under the cover).

Do you know the site to where I could take a look?

I ordered most of my diapers from thanksmama.com. They were cheaper there than anywhere else. The rest I got on Ebay getting lucky.

Sounds like you've got heaps of good suggestions for diapers.

Is also like to suggest that if you're going to use cloth diapers, you could consider cloth wipes also. I ordered mine from a specialty nappy store so they were expensive but they are so soft and kind to LO's bum!
Of course you can go more budget and make your own out of old 100% cotton flannel shirts or sheets (amoung other things)

I just keep them dry and spray water on them as I need them and pop them in the pail with the cloth diapers.

Some food for thought anyways ;)

Wow I never heard of cloth wipes, thanks for mentioning that. I'll definitely be checking on those as well.

Not a problem   I didn't think of them at the beginning either but I received 5 free from my nappy store and I was hooked!
Many sites that sell the diapers also sell premade cloth wipes (and etsy also) but if DIY is your thing, google has heaps of good ideas.

I know I'm raving a bit now, but you can use plain water (which I would until LOs rash clears) but you can also make your own solutions out of gorgeous natural ingredients. (http://www.zany-zebra.com/cloth-wipe-solution.shtml for examples)

Heh, ok I'm done now heheh ;)

It's very interesting to know all this. I've never tried it before so I don't mind your raving at all. This will be my first time for cloth diapers. Usually here in Guam when babies are allergic to wipes we use cotton balls and water. So feel free to tell me all about it. It's a huge help to get opinions from mothers who use it. Thanks for the advice. I will surely look it up. ;)

for rashes i always make some watered down chamomile tea, add honey, calendua oil (if avail) and a splash of witch hazel and use that as wipe solution. it needs changed daily tho.

you can get prefolds and covers super cheap. you can get 100% cotton flannel baby blankets and use those as flats too. cheap, cute, and soft
