Drug testing welfare applicants

posted 14th Mar
Ok, I'm sure this will turn into a debate so I'm putting it here   I'm not sure how true this is, since it's just something I saw going around FB, but apparently it has been ruled unconstitutional to drug test welfare applicants as it violates their fourth amendment right. This was posted by a friend who is BIG into politics when another friend shared a picture showing support that MI is trying to pass a law requiring the drug testing. Do you agree that it is unconstitutional? Why or why not??

Not my words, but I fully agree- that if I have to take a drug test to get a job that will help pay for your welfare- then you bet your ass you should take one too

I feel that of someone is on welfare then they should be able to pass a drug test. I mean in order to get a job you have to be clean so why shouldn't it be required of welfare cases.

I agree. I asked the friend how it's unconstitutional to require the drug testing for welfare but jobs are allowed to do it, but he said it's unconstitutional to drug test for jobs to, people just do it anyway so that's when I was hesitant to believe it's truly unconstitutional lol

I do not think it's Unconstitutional. It's not just a random search. It's specific for people who want certain benefits. Same as you get searched going into a Courthouse or you get drug tested for Employment. I don't agree with drug testing for Food Stamps, though. It's going to cost more money than it could ever save and refuse benefits to Children whose Parents have had poor choices.

Who don't they spend that drug testing money on social services so they get kids out if the homes with these criminals, and BOOM they no longer qualify for welfare & kids aren't getting shafted by their parents being criminals.

If it was unconstitutional, jobs wouldn't be allowed to do it PERIOD. They don't just 'do it anyways' ... there could be huge lawsuits if that happened. A person can REFUSE a drug test, but 9/10 times... they'll also lose that job opportunity.

It'd be a waste of time. People have found so many ways around that kind of stuff.

I think they should be drug tested! If you can't afford to feed your family, you should not be able to afford drugs!

If you can pass it, you shouldn't worry. If you can't pass it, how are you supposed to get a job and eventually get off?

edit: I'm in favor of lol
