Why should they give people MORE but not enough to live off of?
Keep it the same, and stop spending the rest. The spending is the problem, why would the solution be to spend it differently?

Because more would help and it would be going to people and innocent kids who actually deserve it.
Like I already said, they would still be saving money even if they gave more to the people who needed it.
Have you ever had to be on cash assistance? Because you seem very one sided about this. Ive been on both sides. I've been a taxpayer and I agree spending should be done differently, but ive also been the one who actually NEEDS assistance to keep my family alive and healthy. I am lucky enough to have family willing to take me in until we can get back on your feet, but some people don't even have that. Cash assistance should at least cover a studio apartment or some low income cheap housing. Why should the kids suffer just because their parents are in some unfortunate circumstances??

Sure I thinks its OK to test to receive welfare but I also think that if a person fails the drug test that they be given the help they need to get clean so they can eventually get on welfare until they find a job and can take care of themselves. So realistically it would cost taxpayers more but would be worth it if you can get more people off of hardcore drugs and into the workforce.
If they just ran drug tests and then thru people into the streets for failing they really aren't helping anyone are they? Just creating more druggies and criminals.

No because it isnt cost effective at all. They ended up spending more on drug testing in Florida than they saved by denying the few that tested positive benefits. Drug tests are way easy to fake.

In theory it is a great idea. However, it has proven to be ineffective & costly. 90% of the people passed when they did it here in FL.
I see no point in denying benefits due to drug use and NOT removing the children. I think the children's well being is more important & until they are going to follow through with action to protect the kids, it won't work well.

I've QUALIFIED for everything. But I didn't take it. I was broke as broke gets and busted my ass as a single mom to get out of it.

Sure, I get why people like the idea. It SOUNDS logical. Yet, when you know someone who lives off the govt. but makes their selves a lil side money by selling their clean urine to someone wanting a job where they drugtest, it kinda shows you it wouldn't work enough to be cost effective.

Completely agree!

You may have qualified but you obviously didnt need it if you didn't take it.

I think drug testing for anything but cash aid is ridiculous.
And not all places of employment drug test so, to me, that just makes that argument silly.

I think they should be tested. I know its not the same but my best friends mom got food stamps and shed trade her whole card for cash to get drugs, leaving her two daughters with nothing. That's just wrong and I imagine it happens all the time with every kind of gvt assistant

If those kids were taken from her, she wouldn't have qualified for them.
