I feel so guilty :(

posted 14th Mar
DS has been ebf since he was born...minus like 2 days right after he was born because he lost almost a pound so we used a weird tube thing attached to a syringe to put a little formula in his belly while my milk came in. ANYWAY!
My milk was enough to fill his little belly until recently...he'll nurse for almost 2 hours and still fuss that he's hungry. Plus, last time he got weighed he'd only gained 9oz in a month   My poor Bug. Nothing has helped my milk supply increase...not mother's milk tea, not him nursing for extended amounts of time, not pumping, not oatmeal...nada   So it looks like I have to start weening him on to formula because I just don't make enough to fill him up.
And the worst part is I thought I would hate breast feeding him....but I LOVE it. I love the mommy and Bug time we get all day because even daddy can't feed him. I love how nursing is like the only thing that comforts him when he's fussy
It just sucks major butt hole

Maybe you should continue to BF and just supplement with formula if he is still hungry.

I mean, do you want him to be healthy and thrive or do you want him completely dependent on you and only you? Because it seems like instead of the benefits of mothers milk, you are more concerned with having him all to yourself. And that was evident when you said "even daddy can't feed him".

That's kind of what I've been doing the last couple of days...I nurse him in the morning and before he goes to bed...and then give him formula the rest of the day

You don't have to give up nursing completely. Just mix feed. Do breast first and then bottle.

Of course I want him to be healthy and thrive...what kind of mom do you think I am? I'm upset because something I've been doing for almost 3 1/2 months is looking like I can't do it anymore. I know it's healthier for him, I know that it helps bad diseases stay away.
I said "even daddy can't feed him" because it's something special I get to do with DS. No one else can. Everyone else can play with him, spend time with him...all that stuff and I love that they get to. But I love BFing him, and having that special moment that only him and I can have.

I've tried...it didn't help. It might be because I have a hand pump, but idk

That's what I've been doing...it just seems that he's starting to want the bottle more because it's easier and it fills up his belly

how recent has this fussiness been going on?... because it sounds just like a growth spurt to me. I'd let him continue cluster feeding and as soon as he is ready he will crash and go back to nursing at regular intervals and your supply will be right on track.

I exclusively pump and use a hand pump. But I know pumping doesn't work for everyone.

Yes...yes they do. I hate it, but it was free from the hospital, so I can't complain too much

Try Reglan before giving up. It saved me from having to supplement!
