For those who have had one, can you tell me a little bit in detail about how they do a planned c-section? Like how they numb you and all that?
My friend has placenta previa and will have to get one and she's totally freaking out. Since both of my births were natural I figured I'd ask you ladies.
They bring you into a room. give you an antacid drink. They poked me like 5-7 times in the lower back which hurt soooo bad. Then I laid down with my arms to the side.. They put up a curtain.. waited few minutes for everyone to be ready.. Brought my bf back in the room so he could be with me.. then they started (have a really cool c-section vid where they pulled them out *graphic though* if you want to see.. Then they cleaned the babies up which they stitched me up then handed me the babies and wheeled me to recovery.
they take you in the O.R and they do your spinal first. Once that was done my legs went numb right away and I was numb up to my breasts. I was numb for about 3-4 hrs it just slowly un numbed down my body
then they start surgery! it really isn't that long. Maybe half an hour - 40 minutes.
Once the baby is born they will bring him/her to you but they take them away while you get sewn/stapled back up and after that you go to recovery for about an hour.
Every hospital is different. I didn't have my baby during recovery but some will let you.

mine was a little unique as you know but ill explain how mine went.
I had an u/s first because of my placenta previa they wanted to make sure it was out of the way for a bikini cut or see where else they should cut me because they couldnt mess around with hitting placenta and risking her bleeding to death because as soon as my water was broken shed start bleeding. so they wanted to be sure where everything was.
then they gave me a paper gown thing and some of these antibacterial wipes that they said help eliminate germs in the OR. idk if all places use them.
But I had to use diff wipes on certain parts of my body and scrub with them everywhere except my chest (for baby to do skin to skin).
then I walked down to the OR, got on the table (I had to strattle it) and the anesthesiologist did my spinal. My legs were getting numb before I even layed down. So I layed down and they put in a cathetar. Then they put up the little curtain and the anestesiologist kept talking to me to see if I was doing ok. Put a BP cuff on me, and was just there in case I got nauseas he would give me meds to stop it so I wouldnt throw up or to help if I passed out or anything. The dr checked to see if I was numb. I was. So they did their thing. told me i'd feel pressure (which wasnt bad) and they lowered the curtain and brought her out and showed us. Let daddy take a pic of her. Then they had to go assess her because she was early. then they wiped her off and brought her to me and put her on my chest while they finished stitching me. Had daddy take her and met us in the recovery room a few minutes later after they moved me from the operating table to a bed. I nursed her as soon as we got in the recovery room.
