TTC??

How did you know it was the right time to TTC?

My SO and I have been talking a lot lately about having a baby. He is completely smitten with the idea and would like me to have my implanon taken out next week. Im a little more hesitant. I would love to have a baby but I worry a lot about the Ifs, Buts and Maybes. I worry that we wont have enough money, that our house isn’t ready, that my SO is wanting to get into a different career. But then I keep thinking there will always be a reason not to have a baby if you look hard enough. In reality we have a comfortable lifestyle, we are in front on all our bills, I own two houses and am planning on selling the investment property at a large profit, our current house is more than functional and just requires cosmetics which can be done any time, and my SO is happy to stay in his current career until we are a little more steady on our feet after having the baby. And I know our families will be over the moon, they would help us as much as possible and would never let us struggle.

Are these normal thoughts/fears or do I sound like I’m not ready? Thoughts, opinions, advice welcome!

I don't think there is ever a perfect time. There will always be reasons to wait. But if you are financially stable then go for it.

Like you said there will always be a reason not to.

We are in a financial position that we have a little extra money, it won't be enough, it will never be enough, but it will work.

Our kids are 8 and 4. So we will have a 1 year old a 5 year old and a 10 year old. We didn't want them much further apart than that.

It just felt right.

My best friend said pretty much the same thing to me and its kind of the conclusion I have come to. I just panic that we will need a lot more money than we think we will.

You will always figure something out if it came to that. Do you own your own home or rent?

there are websites to help you get an idea on costs of having a child. Although it is never 100%.

All I know is.... I wasn't ready when I had my daughter but we made sacrifices and only had the necessities and lived in a small apartment for awhile with her and my eldest son, and we worked to achieve what we have now and now we live very comfortably. It sounds to me like you have more going for you than I did. Hope this helps.

If you don't feel ready yet then don't push yourself.

Yeah I guess I look at our spending money and think "wow we wont have enough" but forget that all our bills are paid and we will just have to do without our little luxuries. We will be able to make it work too.

I love my SO and nothing would make me happier than having our little family together.

I own our home, and I also own another investment property. Our home could do with a new bathroon and kitchen, but thats just my preference, it doesnt need them. Yeah I guess the old saying come into it that you live within your means.

I am the same way. I really want to redo our master bath, but it's fine the way it is. And realistically another baby is way more fun =)

Im so afraid that I will never be ready lol! Another thing that scares me is that Im not particularly maternal. I dont have feelings towards other peoples babies, I dont pick them up etc, and I have never really thought about having my own children. Im relying on the instict kicking in when I have the baby lol.

Haha, all I see when I think of the future is a baby and making plans around our family. I just freak out when SO says go get your implanon taken out next week!

IMO there will always be something you feel needs to be done before you have a baby. So there is never really a perfect time. We freaked when dd surprised us. But her timing wasn't all that bad. It's not like you are in debt and barely making ends meet, or at least it doesn't sound that way. If you want to go for it! But if you really feel that now is just not right for you and you don't want to, put the issue on the back burner for a few months and revisit it.
