I wish there was a baby affordability calculator!

We've just started thinking about TTC in the next couple of years. I think we could afford a baby, but I'm not totally sure that we could bring another baby into the world without financial struggles. We've never "tried" or planned for any of the kids we have now, so I've never had to make a conscious decision on whether or not we could afford a baby.

We make $50K/year, we have no debt, and my health insurance is awesome because I work in a medical office. I know that everyone says that if you wait until you can afford children, you'll never have them. I just don't want to jump into something that we can't handle.

How did you decide when you were financially ready to TTC?

If both of those scenarios were affordable I would think of the impact on the family. Do we have a car big enough to add another car seat to. Is our home big enough. What will vacations and trips to see family cost.

If we could work everything into the budget without feeling like we would be missing out anything and our savings account was pretty then I would feel ready.
