I actually had no clue that the nachos were going to come up at the same time as the entrees. I saw the nachos thinking oh hey cool their appetizer is up and as soon as I was getting it ready to run it their entree came up. But I brought their food and I explained there was a delay. I even put a kitchen note to have the nachos as an appetizer so I expected it to come out a lot sooner than it did.

And sometimes our cooks make the entrees TOO fast and it leaves very little time to get appetizers and give them enough time to snack on it. Like the appetizer will come up and then less than a minute later the entree will come up. I mean I like having fast cooks, but it also sucks when they're too fast because it makes us servers look incompetent when we barely have time to get salads and appetizers out before their food comes up. I was really nice to that couple though. I told them that we had a bit of a rush and that I wasn't expecting their entree yet and they were still jerks. There is only so much I can do.

Me personally, if I had that issue with "fast cooks" and people wanting appetizers or salads first, I would ring in the appetizer or salads or whatever, get it served, THEN ring in their entrees. In bigger restaurants where apps are ordered more often, that's actually how they train is to do it. You take a drink/app order and ring it in. Bring the drinks, run the app, take the food order, they munch on app while entrees are being prepared. I would never ring it in together and just put a note. Even if they order it all at the same time, I ring in the app and their food doesn't get rung in until their app is up to ensure they have time to eat it before the cooks start on their food.

I try to do that, like with their drinks when I bring them I always ask if they want to order an appetizer and suggest a few. If they say no then I still give them a minute to look at the menu and come back to them. If they say yes I tell them I will give them a minute to look at entrees and while they're looking I ring in the appetizer order. My workplace is kinda smurfed though since we're extremely short staffed. So some days we have super slow cooks who take forever to get smurf out, but sometimes we have really fast ones who get it out too fast. It gets really frustrating. I mean it doesn't happen allll the time or anything, but it happens enough to annoy me. I will even go back to the kitchen and be like "hey that appetizer needs to be up FIRST" because some of our cooks don't speak English very well and they'll just throw everything down at once when they're not supposed to. It pisses me off.

Right but even if you get their entree order with their app order, do NOT put their entrees in until their app comes up in the window. It gives them time to eat while their food is cooking. If there is an app, their food order shouldn't go in at all until their app is ready to serve. Otherwise you run that risk of foods together. It will save you at least THAT much dignity with those nitpicky tables.

I hate when that happens, haha. We had a huge sampler appetizer and then the food the other day. Within 5 minutes of the appetizer coming our meals were out. It was like. . . there wasn't even room on the table for it all. So we ended up having to get rid of most of our sampler because we needed to make room for the meals, lol. It sort of sucked. Of course, if that's the worst part of my day it's been a darn good day, haha
