depends on age and child....My son did this early so we just put him in a big boy bed and put a baby gate up and started bedtime rituals so he wouldnt get out as even at its lowest setting my son got out of his baby crib ...that being said he learned to climb before he could walk and I was terrified he would climb out at night and hurt himself more than if I baby proofed his room and gave him a real bed so if he got out or started tossing and turning it was close to the floor and no biggie

well all of that should be child proofed anyway.
Sleep with your doors open. I've never not heard DD when she got up.
Put a bell on his door if you don't think you will hear him.

We turned the locks on our doors backwards so we can lock the bathroom from the outside. That way he cant open the door and get in the toilet. Do you have a monitor in his room? I have one in DS room so I always hear him when he gets up. Also do you have a set bedtime routine? That helped us alot when switching DS.

well its not all baby proofed. and prob wont be getting baby proofed! kids learn. my generation and before didnt have locks on every inch of the house and people have done just fine!

we have a video monitor. and i cant sleep with my door open. its just a security thing i guess.

the bell seems like a good idea though! thanks   ill def hear that over the monitor IF i dont hear him climbing out! I hear everything though i keep it turned up so loud lol

yes he goes to bed at the same time everynight (except when sick and last night for some reason! lol)
im not sure i like the locking from the outside idea . BUT our doors you can lock them and use a butter knife or something to turn the lock form the outside and open it   i could try just locking the bathroom door everynight before we go to bed?

yes we have a monitor and im pretty sure i would hear him climb out of bed if he did but im not positive   and i think we are going to switch his bed to a toddler bed so he doesnt end up hurting himself climbing in or out. would i hear him get up that way?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and get up 40 times a night to pee, so that why we switched it lol. I would either pee myself or end up kicking the door in at 4 in the morning trying to get it open with a butter knife   DS is in a toddler bed and I always hear him when he gets up. I keep my door open too, because I cant roll out of bed as fast as I used to and he comes to my room to look for me.

our room is on the other side of the house and we have our own bathroom and that door doesnt lock it slides and is always open unless someones in there so i have it easy to pee at night   lol im only 24weeks though.

i cant sleep with my door open :/ but like someone posted im going to try getting a bell to put on his door so it rings over the monitor if i dont wake up when i hear him get up. (not sure howloud hes going to be at waking up once we switch him to toddler bed)

I toitally missed that suggestion, but it is a great idea. I think I may do that as an extra security measure too

Get a toddler bed. Make sure his room is safe. Secure shelves, dressers, everything.... And shut his door. Keep a night light or really dim lamp so if he gets up he doesn't bump into things. That's what we do.
