Baby sick all the time.

posted 13th Mar
So DD is almost 14 months old. She has basically had some kind of cold/virus/flu/pneumonia since November. Flu/pneumonia was over xmas/new years. Poor thing is seriously always sick we jump from one virus to the next with at most a week or two between usually its just days. She is not in daycare and while we do playgroups the other moms are pretty good about keeping sick or possibly sick kids home.
Her most recent illness. Friday night she started projectile vomiting for about 2 hours straight. She dry heaved all night and was very sleepy and clingy on sunday. By sunday afternoon she was super congested nose just stuffed up and coughing all the time. She also had a low grade fever since (100-101) We do the usual suction, saline, humidifier, steamed bathroom, vicks (chest, back.feet with socks), vaseline for her dry cracked bleeding nose. Today she is so stuffed up even 5 min after draining and suction that she cant eat or drink. She woke up with a dry diaper this morning. She is sleeping all the time (which for her is not normal at all) She isnt playing or showing interest in much of anything. This morning I gave her breakfast (eggs) she ate half of what she normally does drank a few sips of milk, refused water played for 10 min and then started crying and rubbing her eyes. I picked her up she snuggled into me and was out cold in 10 min. She took a 5 hour nap today. Avg. is 2-3 hours. Within 30 min of being up she just laid down on the couch and started to fall asleep. She just whined trying to get comfortable and breathe. She had 2 wet diapers all day and 1 dirty. At dinner she kept choking on her food because she couldnt breathe while eating. We were finally able to get some pedialyte in her tonight after bath. My husband noticed that since yesterday she just looks pale.
I have made her a doctors appointment tomorrow but my fear is they are going to say the usual its just ANOTHER viral infection and keep doing what were doing and thats that.

My oldest was never sick this much and she was in daycare during cold/flu season at this age. Has anyone else had a baby that is just always sick like this and it truly always is something viral. Could something else be going on? Should I push for any specific kind of testing or am I just having a bad cold/flu season with her?

Thanks for reading I know this was a bit long.

Dude that's the boys exactly right now. Since end of November we've been battling one sickness or the next. Asher I swear has had a cold for 14 months. It really is a terrible flu/cold season.

Hopefully they can do a breathing treatment

I'm ready for spring. I've missed so much work this illness season.

My 13 month old has been sick over a month..and he has never been sick before this. Whatever this virus is they have, it sucks. Both my kids have sinus infections and have had two rounds of antibiotics..and theyre still sick.

I hope they do something. She is just so miserable and I cant keep Savannah locked in the house for the next 1-2 months either.

My daughter never caught anything as a baby. My son has had a few colds and RSV. He can't seem to shake the after effects of the RSV either. We're going to the doctor in the morning to get him checked out because he has another cough. The only thing I can think of is DD brings the crap home from school and he catches it. It's so frustrating, I feel your pain, mama. I hope your DD gets better quickly.

....Have you looked into sodium ascorbate (vitamin C powder with sodium) it really helps the immune system....especially upper respiratory issues. I gave it to my 8 month old when he had bronchitis and when he was exposed to whooping cough.

eta- N is almost 16 m now...but I gave it to him when he was 8 m

Haha. Worst part is DH is blaming me saying if I would of let her get her flu shot then she wouldn't of been as sick.

If it was the flu it shouldn't be lasting this long. DS had the flu got meds and a steroid shot and was showing signs of improvement the next day.
I would push for something else. And unless she has really smurffy luck, you usually don't catch the flu twice. When DS when in for the flu they ran a whole bunch of tests even though the doctor was already pretty certain of what was going on. I would just ask if there is something else they can look or test for because you don't feel like she is ok.

She had the flu/pneumonia was cleared of that by her birthday (end of jan) then caught something else that was diagnosed as "something viral" She also has these red spots that look like pimples all over her arms and some on her legs that I took her in for about a two weeks ago (big sisters tummy was covered as well) and they said something viral then too and they should go away on their own. Now they are back and more than before.

I wouldn't settle for "something viral" that just sounds like a lazy doctor trying to make a quick diagnosis to get you out. I'm guessing they didn't run test? I would want to know an answer for something.
