My doctor told me it was fine to go back on Lexapro for my anxiety and prescribed me some so I have it but scared to take it still since im breastfeeding. I really don't want to have to go back on it but I know it'll really help me feel better. I get scared its going to mess with my baby's brain or something. What would you do?

You have posted this twice.

I don't know. I'd look for other ways to deal with anxiety before meds regardless if I was breastfeeding or not. If the benefit of being anxiety free outweighs the risks involved then take it. If it doesn't, don't take it.

I know i did because no one responded to the first one, and I've been dealing with anxiety for 6 years now and have found other ways and tried them but none have worked so I started taking Lexapro and it worked great for me.

My aunt took lexapro within a week or two after giving birth and her daughter never had an issue. Have you considered going to therapy? That may help so you won't need to take so much. If you have a history, and know how bad it would get, then I would take it.

Their is a dr who only deals with medications in mothers milk. His name is Dr Hale. This is his web site
http://www.infantrisk.com/
He will email you if you need him to. He has a book and a ton of info. Just look at his book. Your pediatrician should have it.

I take ALL SORTS of meds and nurse. Some of the medication I need is less common so I talked to Dr Hale and he said it was fine! Most medications get into the milk in such a small amount that it is ok. Not all of them though.

So if the one you take is bad then see if you can take another one till you are done nursing.

I've gone to therapy before but it never helped, I know all the techniques in dealing with anxiety but they do nothing for me. I did read that having low vitamin D levels can cause more anxiety and when I was pregnant I had to take vitamin D and I didn't have anxiety that bad so maybe ill try taking that again and see if it makes a difference before the Lexapro.

That would probably be good. If you can sit out on a porch or something with your DD you can get some natural Vit D too!
