Morning sickness diet

posted 12th Mar
Hey all,
I feel like I need help lol. I have really bad morning sickness...to the point where I can't keep anything down, not even water unless it is ice cold & I sip on it slowly. I'm getting nervous because I feel like I'm not eating near as much as I should be for my LO. The only things I can keep down are cereal (sometimes) & peanut butter banana sandwiches. I've tried making smoothies, eating my fruits & veggies, eggs, rice, meat, fish, yogurt..you name it & it all comes up. Even saltine crackers & ginger. Because I'm throwing up everything I always feel hungry, but when I eat...it doesn't stay down or makes me feel sick.
I'm taking Diclectin for it, which helps with my nausea but not so much with my ability to keep down food. The smell of food cooking even makes me sick, I'm really detesting this first trimester lol. I'm having no cravings just a LOT of food aversions.

What are some things you other pregnant moms ate while going through this? How long did it last? & please only answer if you have actually experienced awful morning sickness I really don't need to hear about how great others felt in the first trimester right now...not that I'm not happy for you about it..I'm just miserable & so can't wait to eat & keep down a full meal again!

I had it until the day after I gave birth. Nothing worked but zofran., and that only stopped me from puking. I was still nauseous all the time. I could hardly eat, most of the time I ate once a day. She came out healthy but small.

That's what I'm doing right now but I keep reading in books & online about how at this time in pregnancy I need to eat a healthy balanced diet & bla bla bla...if I could I would. But I very much cannot. Its nice knowing im not the only one eating from a very small selection of food, was starting to feel guilty for it.
With my first I had morning sickness but no where near to this extreme.

i was the same in my first trimester. when i could eat i would eat raw veggies with lemon on them, it seemed to help me. i also bought preggo pops which didnt seem to help much depending on the day. in addition i took vitamin B6 and unisom at night before bedtime (per my doctor) that really kinda did not help so they ended up giving me some medication that they give cancer patients because i was loosing weight. it lasted till about 20 weeks but i still get it now and then, like this morning i was sick when i woke up and i'll be 24 weeks tomorrow. its should get better but call your doctor, try what they tell you and then call again so they can get you something to help you.

Well I had issues with HG this pregnancy, and it's finally going away and I got zofran, but for the first weeks of my pregnancy I lived on a bland diet. Keep the meals small but enough to satisfy you. Here's a list of things I found I could consume with no issues:
-crackers
-dry cereal (such as cheerios)
-Bananas
-Rice
-Toast with nothing on it
-ensure/boost/nutrition shakes.
-oatmeal
-grits
-cream of wheat
-malt-o-meal
-pasta with nothing on it
-steamed, boiled, or baked plain potatoes.
-very steamed or boiled soft veggies (nothing too strong like brocolli)
-veggie or chicken broth.
-Plain mild fruit such as apples.
-plain beans like plain black beans.
-gatorade

Examples of what I'd eat:
-Small breakfast of toast and ginger tea.
-lunch would probably be a baked potato with nothing on it with a gatorade or nutrition shake.
-dinner would be pasta or rice with nothing other than a very steamed or boiled veggie like carrots or green beans.
I'd eat bananas and sliced apples with no skin for a snack, sometimes crackers too. It worked well for me. Also as hard as it sometimes is, drink as much water and gatorade as you can. Also keep crackers by your bed for the morning with a water bottle or glass and eat them like as soon as you get up.
