Crying it out at 6 weeks...HELP!
posted 12th Mar
My son is 6 weeks old tomorrow and he will only sleep if someone is holding him or if he is in the stroller or car. Once he is asleep I try to put him in his crib and he starts crying and stops and soon as I pick him up. He is fed and has a clean diaper. As much as I dont want to, is it to early to let him cry it out? I want him to lear to fall asleep on his own so when is the best time to let a baby cry it out?

It's too early to cry it out. He will learn to fall asleep on his own in time.

He's too little at 6 weeks. He cries because he wants his mommy to hold him and make him feel secure. It sucks, but you just gotta roll with it. When he gets older, he may start to learn to sleep on his own. Maybe you can swaddle him then lay him down. It'll make him feel tight like he's still being held.

I don't think its a good idea. I have read that it can cause trust issues and that he will stop crying not because he has soothed himself but because he has realized that your not going to come to him he feels helpless. My son was the same way and spent the first two months of his life sleeping in my room in his bouncer or car seat.

It is absolutely too early to cry it out He barely even knows he's born. Meaning he needs you to soothe him. He spent 9 months in your womb. He has only been here for 6 weeks. Help the baby out by nurturing and cuddling him. I know it's hard to have a high needs baby but right now he has no idea what's going on or why. He needs you.
I agree with laying him on his stomach, side, in a swing, ANYTHING other than just being left to cry. You should only do that if you're about to snap.

At 6 weeks newborns do not cry just because, if they're crying there's a reason. Contrary to belief you also can not "spoil" a newborn by holding them too much.

Way too early.
He's a baby and still in the "fourth trimester" where he needs to accustom himself to life outside of the uterus. In order to do so, he needs to be held, made to feel secure, and safe. Hold him as much as possible; he'll be running out of your arms soon enough and then you'll regret not holding him more.

He is way too young for that. Newborns are used to being inside of their moms, in a tight, warm, space. It takes them time to be okay on the outside of that environment. He will not need to be held forever, but probably for awhile longer. I would keep trying to put him down, but if he won't go for it, try swaddling him really well and maybe putting him somewhere smaller than a crib, I used a basinette with my little ones, they were okay with it. You could also try co-sleeping.

Letting him cry it out is very harmful emotionally...
